when was the last time a number 1 and number 3 ranked players in a slam (we all know Novak was the "real" number 2 here) were beaten so early in a slam... in the same round!?

OTTH, I can only think of Bloody Monday back in 1990! Stefan Edberg & Boris Becker were 1 & 2 seed resp. lost on Day 1! Andres Gomez won!:slap:

And in terms of stats, if he does win this, he is a candidate for Best Single Slam Player of the Open Era. He'd at least be in the top half dozen or so.

I believe Sascha himself thinks he's the best Slamless player, or has implied as much. I think he is, in terms of stats, even if I think there are more talented Slamless guys (e.g. Nalbandian). We bag on Sascha, but he has put together a great resume.
For me, it's Marcelo Rios that was the most talented slamless player ever. He's the only one to be ranked #1. In fact, I was convinced in 1998 that he was the real deal, and would be the next great player in the post-Sampras era. Then, he ate his way into oblivion. Rios should have dominated the years in between Sampras and Federer (1999-2002/03).

Flavio Cobolli is the only player so far to reach R16 without losing a set. Jaime Faria hasn't lost a set, but still has to play R32.

Yeah, he's up there in terms of talent. Miloslav Mecir comes to mind, as well.

I now have high hopes for Cobolli he has been playing up to his potential for once so far at RG

He has what should be a relatively easy match coming up in Svadja, and FAA is the top seeded player in his half, so reaching the final is a real possibility.

You could get a Cobolli-Berrettini SF.
Nooooo lol! well at least one of the them will be through to the final if that happens. I have always had a soft spot for Matteo, presently I feel Cobolli would have a much better chance, he has the game.

Meanwhile, Kouame just broke back in the 4th set and held his serve. This kid looks legit. I watched some highlights and it is crazy projecting what sort of player he might be in two or three years, if he's already this good at 17.

Whomever starts the Pasodoble Taurino, or whatever the headache that is, should be immediately kicked out of the stadium and be banned from tennis for life. Whomever yells "Ole" at the end should only get one warning, and then tossed out of the game and lose dessert privileges for a year.
