Grass has been Sinner's worst surface historically. Let's be honest, Sinner got lucky in winning Wimbledon. If not for Dmitrov's injury, Sinner likely has another earlier than expected exit at Wimbledon. (To be fair, the same with Novak at the AO with Musetti getting injured.)

If we get a healthy Novak against Sinner at Wimbledon, I'm going with Novak every time. The only players that I'd give a chance against healthy Novak at Wimbledon are Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro, Carlos Alcaraz, and maybe 2006-2011 Nadal. Sinner is not as good as those players on grass. Again, like the Dmitrov injury, Sinner got lucky that Djokovic was compromised at match point in his quarterfinal. When Djokovic was healthy in 2023, he won in straights over Sinner.

Old, past prime Federer had two match points against Djokovic in their last match at Wimbledon. The one before that it was 7-5 in the fifth. In 2019 at least Federer was playing really well, the one before... far from it. Bottom line, saying that Federer had "a chance" against Djokovic is a stretch. On grass, with both at their peaks or close to it , it is Djokovic who would have a chance (maybe).

Definitely agree with you there. The fading version of Roger was very competitive on a much slower grass court (which favors Djokovic) twice, in 2014 and 2019. I'd have to think that prime for prime, Novak doesn't come close to touching Roger, especially if they had to play in the faster grass courts that Roger had when he was untouchable from 2004-07. Novak (the 2011 version that beat Rafa in the final) might have a puncher's chance on the slower grass court.

It is Gills latest podcast before he does his usual picks for Roland Garros, he also selected a couple of players that did not make his Top Ten and gave reasons why, eg Fonseca was one player that missed out.
It is a good podcast to listen to as always

Arthur Fils has withdrawn from Roland Garros, just getting more details
Persistent pain in his lower back and hip sad to say
Fils said he wasnt prepaid to take the risk of playing due to the fact her had been off the tour with lower back fracture, wise decision he is still young and better to heal than further risking more time off the tour

Yeah, I listened to most of that. Bummer about Fils. He seems to gather momentum for a jump up, then get hurt.

I'd agree with Gross to put Jodar in there around that range, and to leave Fonseca out. Maybe he becomes #10 with Fils out. Maybe.
