Well, I was very happy to see Nole beat Roger again, but dealing every day with watching my father age, it was also little sad to see how badly Fed went away. And I don't appreciate it being called condescending.

OK, I'm sorry, then. I thought Roger put up a good and interesting fight. While it lasted. I didn't find it sad. Different POV.

Nope. You're missing the point. You're trying to bring in the fact that Novak was affected. We are talking about the rudeness of the crowd.

... and how it affected Novak, which you even admitted above.

I 'admitted' that Novak was affected? Are you kidding? Did I also 'admit' that the sky is blue?

Oh, brother ... OK, I give up.

Maybe it is wording... while I was ecstatic that Nole won, I was sad to see how badly Roger went away in those last couple of games.

Prolly better than saying "it" was sad.

You're hilarious. :hug It wasn't "I" or "it", it was the word "sad" that I found condescending. But if that's they way you feel, I respect it. I just didn't think it was a "sad" display from Fed. If he'd gone out in straights, the way it looked like he was going to, I would have said it was a bit sad, as he seemed on good form during the tournament. Given that he put up a valiant fight, I found it less than sad, even if he didn't win, and faded in the 3rd. But obviously, that's just the way it seemed to me. We're good.

It was a match of violent swings of momentum back and forth. The better man win today, but it was tense throughout and worthy of a big event like this. I don't know about the rest of you, but the Federer-Djokovic rivalry has been the most electrifying for years now.

I missed out on watching this match and I'm gutted. The Nole/Federer match-up is always exciting to watch. Anyway, congratulations to Djokovic - another M1000 under his belt. He's in freakish form. Very happy to still see Federer playing well and challenging the best, too.

Overall, a great tournament, especially from an Australian perspective.

Roger isn't beating Nole on slow courts without a very high 1st serve % and a day where the forehand is clicking and relatively clean. Even then it will be tough, he is the big underdog in matches like today. Given how poorly he served and how erratic his forehand was it was a surprise it went 3.

The way Roger is moving and hitting the backhand is great though and gives him hope on fast courts this year. Until then I just hope he doesn't overplay during the clay season. Indian Wells/Miami, clay, etc. are not good tournaments for him at this point, he quietly hasn't won on a slow/medium paced court since 2012 Madrid.

I agree, but perhaps we should add one more condition, he should get it done in 2 sets.
Otherwise, it is probably difficult for him (especially after we saw the way he faded
away in the last few games today without putting up a fight and going down valiantly).

^ True, but I think a lot of him fading physically today was due to circumstances, he made a furious comeback in the 2nd set and that zapped a lot of his energy. Last year he won the 1st set pretty easily, and lost the 2nd set and had plenty of energy for the 3rd which went to a tiebreak.

Well, similar thing happened to him at Wimby last year (even though it is supposed to be
a fast court). After fighting so hard and making it to 5th set, he just faded away in the final set.
While Roger losing is something that I am willing to accept, he fading is something I find
difficult to digest.

Whether or not Nehemeth said it in a condescending tone, I too feel the same way
as him. It is sad to see Roger fading in the end without being able to put up a fight and lose
valiantly.

With Federer running out of gas so obviously in set 3, what chance does he have a winning a slam now? Maybe Wimbledon? If not Federer, who can face up to Djokovic in the Slams this year? Going to have to hope for a Nishikori/Raonic/??? to break through somewhere or we could see a calender Grand Slam.

That would be a wonderful thing to see. :D

Well, there's a lot to be seen for how the comeback goes, but may I submit to you Rafa Nadal? He's done very well against Djokovic in Slams. (9-3 H2H in favor of Nadal in Majors, with the 3 for ND coming during his one fantastic run.)

Well, to be perfectly honest, that's the last thing I want to see! But I never count the Balding Bull of Mallorca out!

As well you shouldn't. Novak doesn't have a great record against him at best 3 of 5. Nor does anyone else, really. Rafael is the only impediment to Nole winning RG, barring big upset. As to Wimby and the USO, I think he faces more challengers, and a young comer upsetting would be less earth-shattering than at RG. Still, those who threaten are a small party.

:) So it's down to that one now?

If I remember that fantastic year in 2011, the old Rafa fan mantras were dropping like flies after first frost: Novak never beat Rafa in a final(Indian Wells); Novak never beat Rafa on clay(Madrid); Novak never beat Rafa on real clay(Rome); Novak never beat Rafa in a best of five match or slam final(Wimbledon).

Maybe this year, if they meet a few times in the right places, that slam h2h will even out a little too.
