the only blemish for her today was break-points conversion wasn't good, otherwise she was flawless - a great final to watch

Break Points Converted:

Elena 3/12
Arnya 1/3
Its kind hard to call it a blemish because she is facing the two time US Open defending champion and the world's number One for almost two straight years. Make no quarrels about Sabalenka had earned the title for being on top. She rarely looses early in a tournament and almost NEVER loose in straight sets.

Arnya 173 km/h
Elena 181 km/h

Average 2nd serve speed -
Arnya 145 km/h
Elena 149 km/h

For Arnya, 35 unforced errors was another telling stat especially after her playing so magnificently in the semifinal.

I didn't see the trophies presentation is this true?

I know she's emotional or whatever, but she didn't mention Rybakina or her team at all in her losers speech. Ryba mentions it first whether she wins or loses

There's no love at all for Sabalenka with these comments...

Sabalenka is a great player, period. But her childish and rude behavior diminishes her reputation. After earning her #1 ranking and US Open victory today, an introverted and humble champion like Rybakina deserved grace and respect for her achievement. On the podium and in her speech Sabalenka, as always, makes everything about her, overshadowing Rybakina's lofty moment with her own self-absorbed tantrum.

I am glad she lost. She carries on as though she should not lose, ever.

I feel the same way. She acts as though she should win every grand slam because she's no. 1.
That is part of the reason why she loses tight games. And loses focus in games she's winning and ends up losing.

Most disgraceful loss behavior I've ever seen. A Trump like.

Sports is a tough profession, and we have to find something deep within beyond skills to be mentally strong and sharp in tough matches. Perhaps we are uncomfortable with her mentality, motivation and drive. She is who she is, and she has had to put in the work too. We don’t have to like all of them personally.
I’m glad Rybakina won.

Elena is so smart the way she played the tennis , very complete.

I agree. A VERY POPULAR win and champion for the U.S. Open, if ever there was one.
Hasn't won the RG but with her game becoming more complete and her on-court demeanor she would be a huge favorite next year...and beyond.

While i'm probably the only one around here that loves Mary Carillo, i wished she'd let the players make their speeches and not to be asking questions during the presentations. Bad decision.

with the help of AI found two other long U S Open finals were:

The 1994 U.S. Open women's singles final lasted approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.
In an unforgettable comeback, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario bounced back after dropping a blistering 22-minute first set to defeat the defending champion Steffi Graf 1–6, 7–6 (7–3), 6–4. [1, 2]
It stands as one of the longest and most competitive women's finals of the 1990s, marking Sánchez Vicario's first and only U.S. Open singles championship.

The 2012 U.S. Open women's singles final lasted 2 hours and 18 minutes. [1, 2]
In that match, Serena Williams defeated Victoria Azarenka with a score of 6–2, 2–6, 7–5 to capture her fourth U.S. Open title. At the time, it was the first women's final to go to three sets since 1995 and was noted as the longest in time duration since 1981. [1, 2, 3]

so it appears the 2026 final, 2 hours 23 minutes, was also the longest.

That was when Steffi was injured. Remember, she lost in the first round of Wimbledon in 1994 and missed the 1995 Australian Open. This was easily the biggest what-if year in women's tennis. Monica missed this year due to recovering from the stabbing, and Jennifer Capriati missed it due to personal problems.

their pressers -

Did you see how face lit up when the young school age girl was allowed to ask the first question about how did it feel been a USO champion.. Touching.. I am a girls dad and I know how hard it is for little girls to sometimes express themselves. Ladies and Gents, we finally have the world's number One that we were promised and the one the world deserves.
