I think what really let Serena down in that match was the inconsistent return of serve. She really had inconsistent positioning which caused her to botch it at times.
Well inconsistent positioning in her movement which was lacking at times when it was needed, still with no matches for 4 years and on the grass where your feet has to well positioned on the return and both wings., it wasnt a bad effort from Serena

No 15 seed Shnaider losing to Samsonova 46 64 62 was a bit of a surprise? Diana faded badly in the 3rd set, she has won tournaments on all surfaces as well, I thought she could win this match up

Eala proved too strong in the end against Joint, giving her a bagel, Joint in their only previous meeting last year on grass at Eastbourne won, first time Eala has made the 3rd round of a GS
Eala gets to play Swiatek in her next match

Anisimova last years finalist v Kenin
Going 3, Amanda has come into Wimbledon with a lower back strain.
Anisimova wins the 3rd TB and the match 10-3

She was extremely competitive against a top 30 (was earlier this year before injury) who played out of her skin and you're right Serena was right there w/ her. As to winning 7 matches, I don't see it. She couldn't do it after baby #1 and she had 4 bites at the apple. Got to 4 slam finals and in each one went down in straight sets. I don't see those odds increasing 7 years later.
I forgot that she hasn't won a Slam since AO 2017. For some reason I thought she won one in 2018 or '19. Yeah, that's a long time ago now, and a different generation of top players (Halep, Kerber, etc). Interesting to note that Serena never played young Iga, but did play and beat Sabalenka at the 2021 AO R16.

I kind of wish Serena lost the quarterfinal match at the 2020 US Open and remained healthy for the fall French Open. We probably would have seen Serena and young Iga face off. I always felt the conditions for that French Open would have favored Serena, like it did for Rafa.

I knew Eala would take care of Maya. Sent her packing w/ some carbs as a parting gift. That was always going to be a difficult turn-around. It's the classic letdown from beating a top player or a legend.

Oh Jazz broken already in your first service game against Golubic
You are still playing with that injured foot from Roma, do yourself a favor and take a break and get it healed you could end up making it worse btw.
Least back on serve now early in the 1st set 2 all

This is the ladies match I wanted to see Rybakina v McNally
Elena's form quite frankly has been poor leading into Wimbledon and she had to scrape to win in 3 sets against Boisson in her opening match, McNally wont be a walk over
A bit windy on CC the wind is behind where Caty is serving.
Caty hasnt won a singles title as yet, but she is a excellent doubles playing winning 9 doubles titles, sad to say injuries have played a big part in Caty's career thus far.
Caty DFs and Elena breaks and has a love service game
Rybakina 4-2 1st set
Rybakina played well in this 1st set 61, surprised at the amount Elena came to the net in the 1st set, I think she came more than Caty lol!
Rybakina's return game is sometimes faster than her serve and it gives Caty no time with the return
Elena really targeting the fhand side of Caty her weaker side
A very costly error from Caty she DFs and had been under pressure on her serve, Elena breaks
Caty just has to absorb the pace from Elena, when she can mix it up, slice, Elena dosent like high balls., try to disrupt Elena
I am thinking to myself is this the Elena I saw at the AO in January? hmm maybe a tad early.
Relentless pressure from Elena and she has BP
Rybakina will now serve for the match 5-2
Rybakina d McNally 61 62 a clinical performance from the world No 2

Maya actually played pretty well the first set and just ran out of gas.. Maya outplayed Serena said she just wanted to have fun.

Just a bit of doubles news,

Paolini/Errani have withdrawn, I think Jaz just wants to concentrate on singles, also she isnt 100% fit to me presently.

2 Williams sisters are still in the draw, despite concerns with Serena's knee, they are scheduled to play Saturday

Singles news,
Osaka is into the last 16 for the very first time, d Kasatkina 61 63
