Good to see Tatjana Maria defending champion, who was refused a wild card and had to play qualifies win against Sakkari 63 63, I am not a fan of Sakkari on grass

Serena/Vicky get an early break in the 2nd set and Serena just consolidated the break
Serena/Vicky leads 3-1
Serena's reflexes have been impressive, seeing she has been off the tour for 4 years
Vicky's serving has been solid in this match
Serena/Vicky leads 4-2, when you think they are playing against a 'seasoned doubles players in Routliffe/Melicher-Martinez they are more than holding their own. quite a tough first match for Serena/Vicky in windy conditions
Great skills at the net Serena!
Great return Vicky and they break and will serve for the match 5-2
Serena to serve for the match 5-2
Serena and her great serve bring up MP
Serena/Vicky defeat the No 3 seeds Routliffe/Melichar Martinez 76(2) 62
Well done ladies and welcome back to the tour Serena!
that's pretty good to defeat a top seeded team like that. Here's a thought .. Let's say Serena teams with Vicky at Wimbledon and Vickey makes it to the 2nd week. If they are still in the doubles and doing well can you imagine the fubar if Vicky withdraws from the doubles to concentrate on singles.. She would piss off 90 percent of tennis fans.. e.g Steffi Graf paired up with McEnroe and they were doing well but she dumped him I think it was the qtrs or round of 16..John was pissed because he pleaded with her to play with him.

I forgot to post earlier that Marta Kostyuk withdrew right ankle injury and Donna Vekic took her place and will play WC Mika Stojscarjevic
EDIT
Vekic won 62 63

I take your point, though do you really think Serena wont play with her big Sis Venus in doubles at Wimbledon this year? the sisters have won 6 GS doubles titles at Wimbledon
Lets not forget they have been undefeated in all their 14 major doubles finals

I will say overall great serving from Serena. It was nice to see a pleasant service motion again. Her movement was ok. She definitely needs more match play to get that cranking again. They have a decent draw, so hopefully this team can do well.

I don't know why people are talking about Serena taking a wildcard from someone for Wimbledon. I just don't see it for singles. I could see her and Venus maybe trying doubles at Wimbledon. I don't think Serena even has singles in mind at the moment. I could see her considering it closer to the US Open or maybe for a slam next year if she gets a good rhythm or feeling going.

I can see Serena and Venus playing doubles at Wimbledon, not singles, just my personal thinking
Serena said she is playing doubles first to see how her level stands up, maybe later for singles USO maybe

I see it her best opportunity is to play singles on grass instead of hard courts..IDK if it’s gonna happen in a few weeks but not the US Open….Serena can get cheap point on the grass not the hc just my opinion

Now we are getting the Hype from the media saying after 1 match in doubles

Would be surprised if Serena dosent play singles at Wimbledon, ( next she will be winning Wimbledon 2026 :) )

Anyway the Andy Murray stadium was packed to the rafters, Serena still to this day attracts crowds where ever she plays and will keep receiving wild cards, much to the disgust of some posters here at TF mind you

I agree, I think Serena was very rusty on all aspect of her game but her serve. I know she had to be nervous. Good to see her back.
