The HSBC Championships

The HSBC Championships marks a significant new chapter in the history of women’s tennis at The Queen’s Club. After more than half a century, the WTA Tour returns to this iconic London venue at WTA 500 level, restoring elite women’s competition to one of the sport’s most storied grass-court settings.

Founded in 1889, the tournament at The Queen's Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious grass-court events in the world. Set in the leafy district of West Kensington, the club is renowned for its immaculate lawns, elegant clubhouse, and quintessentially British summer atmosphere.

Grass courts demand instinctive movement, sharp reflexes, and confident first-strike tennis. The quick, low-bouncing surface rewards aggressive serving and precise net play — making Queen’s an ideal proving ground ahead of Wimbledon. The return of a WTA 500 event to this historic stage signals a renewed commitment to showcasing women’s tennis at one of the sport’s traditional heartlands.

With its blend of heritage, intimacy, and grass-court prestige, the HSBC Championships at Queen’s represents both a revival and a fresh beginning.

London

London is one of the world’s great global capitals — a city where history, culture, and modern life intersect on a grand scale. Spanning centuries of architectural evolution, from medieval landmarks to contemporary skyscrapers, it is a place that balances tradition with constant reinvention.

The British capital is defined by iconic sights such as the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, and the Tower Bridge, as well as its vast green spaces like Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. In early summer, when grass-court tennis takes centre stage, London’s parks bloom, café terraces fill, and the city takes on its distinctive sporting rhythm.

Sport is deeply embedded in London’s identity, and grass-court tennis in particular holds a special place. The Queen’s Club, with its refined West London setting, embodies that tradition — elegant, understated, and steeped in history.

Together, the HSBC Championships and London create a classic British summer pairing: world-class tennis played on manicured lawns in one of the most influential cities on earth.

A flyover of Queens Club, hosts of the HSBC Championships

I recall when everything seemed dominated by red - in line with their old sponsors Stella Artois.

You would think so, I am lucky I have BeInsports that cover both women and mens tournaments all year, though I have to pay for it
In the GS I have free coverage through Stan, also both Beinports and Stan replay matches the next day

All I know is, if they require Chwalińska to qualify for Wimbledon, I'll be totally done w/ women's tennis! It makes no sense to enable the Williams sisters at this point while making current stars work harder to even get into a major event! How can they continue to justify an infinite # of WC's going to them just so they can lose early? Maja's come a long way to be disrespected after her French Open showing making the final! I looked & she's up to #21 in the world! "Don't be fk'n idiots at Wimbledon! Try not to embarrass yourselves by making her go thru the motions of qualifying b/c her ranking was lower last wk. & the cutoff pt. started early!" :angry-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-vomiting:

Laura Robson, Tournament Director ( former player) of Queens, informed 37 yo Tatjana Maria, who was the defending champion and didnt receive a main draw wild card and was forced to play qualifiers, which she qualified, that the wild cards were just for the Brits? quite an "Elitist" point of view Laura? Eye Roll!

Leylah aka Miss Lil Bit game has really fallen off tremendously..I see one flaw in her game or a weakness in her ground strokes during rallies..Leylah has a tendency to slice off the bh side even when she is not stressed..KB took advantage today and regain control of the point in almost every rally.

Serena/Mboko are leading 4-1 over the No 3 seeds
Serena has made some excellent volleys, though she did miss a few lol! I wont hold that against her
There is a great crowd watching this doubles match
A reason why the William Sisters will get wild cards is they get the crowds where ever they play full stop even in their prime they would attract big crowds
Oh a DF from Serena and they are back on serve, Serena movement considering she has been off the tour for 4 years is okay
4 games all 1st set
Serena/Vicky 6-5, they No 3 seeds will serve to force a TB for the 1st set
6 all a TB for the 1st set Serena and Vicky to serve first
No 3 seeds Routliffe/Melicher making a couple of UFE,
Serena/Vicky leading 4-0 in the TB
Serena/Vicky 5-2
Serena/ Vicky win the 1st set 76(2)

Serena/Vicky get an early break in the 2nd set and Serena just consolidated the break
Serena/Vicky leads 3-1
Serena's reflexes have been impressive, seeing she has been off the tour for 4 years
Vicky's serving has been solid in this match
Serena/Vicky leads 4-2, when you think they are playing against a 'seasoned doubles players in Routliffe/Melicher-Martinez they are more than holding their own. quite a tough first match for Serena/Vicky in windy conditions
Great skills at the net Serena!
Great return Vicky and they break and will serve for the match 5-2
Serena to serve for the match 5-2
Serena and her great serve bring up MP
Serena/Vicky defeat the No 3 seeds Routliffe/Melichar Martinez 76(2) 62
Well done ladies and welcome back to the tour Serena!
