I think Mensik has the best chance of beating him, but he's going to have to "out-Zverev" Zverev. In a way, Mensik is a bit of a younger, less headcase-y Zverev. Sascha has the experience, but that might even out with Mensik's youthful surge.
I agree with you regarding Mensik if he can re produce the form he displayed against Fonseca he is in with a good chance, his serve was lights out as well, and his movement for such a tall guy was imprerssive
Though I must admit he has been a 'streaky player'

I was going to say, Mensik's no slouch! He's been quite impressive (as long as he can stay on the court)! He overwhelmed Novak already! :fearful-face::yawningface:

El Dude, I am gonna join you...I am jumping off the bandwagon of FAA's for good. He does not want to be legendary or a GS champion.
He’s a POC but at the same time, he’s very beige. And French. And Canadian. A fucking hopeless combo!

Uncle Toni couldn’t sprinkle some magic Rafa dust on him, unfortunately….

Mensik's been a bit underrated for awhile, overshadowed by Fonseca and even Tien a bit, even after winning a Masters. He didn't follow it up and fell back a bit. He looked a bit better this year, winning an ATP 250, reaching the R16 at the AO then withdrawing, then reaching a QF and SF at 500s. His Sunshine Double and clay season wasn't great, but he seems to be breaking out at Roland Garros. Hopefully this isn't just a repeat of a pattern of "one hot big event per year." His floor is still probably Berdych, but that changes if he wins this. He looks like a legit eventual top 5 guy to me, maybe in the Zverev/Medvedev range.

I've said this before, but I think he's just too nice of a guy to be more than a top 5-10 guy. And really, there's no shame in that. It is a bit disappointing from early promise, but he's probably comparable to Nishikori/Dimitrov...I don't think we've quite seen him reach their best levels, but he's a guy that could still sneak in a Masters or two. If he doesn't, he'll probably be remembered more in the Simon/Robredo/Gasquet/Monfils camp. But he turns 26 in a couple months, so the hour glass has turned.

Was very impressed by him, his shot selection, his temperament, and he’s in no way awkward in his movement, for such a tall lad. And some of them low angled volleys, the touch of a natural. Both of them youngsters have the right stuff to progress in this sport..

Yeah, he's looking more complete now than he did when he beat Novak...then he just overpowered Novak with unreal serves; now he seems to still have that, plus is more well-rounded. Right now I think he's still behind Fonseca in terms of upside, but right there with Jodar - and he's probably shown a higher level, though Jodar's barely played.

I read his post match press
BTW Cobolli had a h2h 2_0 over him I was confident he could win he was the better player

2 wins was not crucial.it was the Italian being the aggressor for three fourths of the match which is unacceptable for the currently number 4 ranked player in the world who hasn’t won a MS title or GS final..like EL Dude said he is not a real threat to any of the contenders..some idiot ask him the dumbest question ever..does Sharpo absence from being an elite Canadian player status hurts him against the more accomplish Italian?

Of course 2 wins isnt crucial accept the fact he was the better player in the match, shit happens deal with it and give credit where it is due,
Of course he isnt a contender guess what either is Felix.
The bias on these boards does my head in at times......................I am going for a run to clear my head!

I keep look looking at this semi-final line up. Yes Mensik is fully capable of beating Sasha, but... if Sasha doesn't close this thing out it's an utter disgrace, a choke job, as complete a clusterfk as there has been since the outflanking of Maginot line. To be the best ever not to win a slam you have to actually have the stones to win one!

Or, when people praise you with the title of Greatest Never To Win A Slam, it should automatically be followed by that same person making chicken “cluck cluck cluck” noises while flapping their arms like wings..

FAA , head scratcher game after being up 0-40 on Cobolli’s serve at 1-2, one set all, he had soo many chances early in that 3rd set & Coboli looked a little spent and was splaying the BH but Felix could not go for the kill.

I will say this one last time; can we please stop saying how well FAA played in that 5 set match with Rafa at the FO a few years ago. He plays up or down to his competition & he LOST that match.

Play ugly & win is what champs do.

FAA plays “pretty”, that does not always work.
Definitely agree with you. Not to mention, FAA's performance against Rafa is overrated a bit. He didn't play the 2011 or even 2020 version of Nadal. (Quite frankly, Isner taking peak Nadal to 5 sets at RG, especially considering the limitations of his game, is much more impressive to me.)

FAA played a faded, almost 36-year-old version of Nadal, who was certainly beatable. Medvedev should have beaten Nadal at the AO and FAA probably should have beaten Nadal that day at RG, but they let Nadal off the hook.
