interesting thesis! Discuss...

You know, there's sometimes I'm sure we'll miss sista @Moxie more than others. This is one of them. I can't even channel her to steelman her reaction to "gynofascism" as a descriptor, but I imagine she'd dismiss it with prejudice and move swiftly on. I do kind of get his point though. Men are more decisive and goal driven. They get things done. In the discussion about the fact that men have built every city we've ever visited, and what would happen if women tried to build a metropolis, I'd imagine they'd barely get a car park built then struggle to fit their cars in..

I know exactly what you mean. I actually thought about what her response would have been as well

I think there's something to this thesis. It would be great to see the serious studies he implies are coming. Take the politics out of it and get to the truth

Irrespective of politics and the credibility of his theory, him blaming the homeless crisis on LA on women not getting anything done is a huge reach. If we're going to blame women not doing anything about inflation, lack of affordable housing, high rents, the ridiculous income inequality in LA (not from a gender perspective to be clear), lack of welfare, etc...all of which being the real reason for the homeless crisis, then that's certainly a choice. But given that the aforementioned factors have been a staple of American politics and capitalism for well over a century, I'm skeptical.

^As I understand it, Californian politics is a bit broken because they've fractionalised decision making to such a degree that neither the governor, nor the legislators have the power to resolve the housing issue. So I do agree that it doesn't make sense to blame female administrators. But that doesn't invalidate the thesis. I would like to read the research the guy claims is coming out to see if there's anything in the difference between male and female decision making and whether changes need to be made. I have a feeling, if it's true, that some areas need more male attention, but I also believe that there are probably areas that need more female attention. What we have right now in a lot of places, particularly in the West are clearly not working. If it helps to fix this malaise then who would want to argue with it?

PS, it's worth noting that in my time working in investment banking there were people who liked meetings. To sit there and talk, not actually do things, just to plan. And there were others who just wanted to go ahead and get things done. I'm not saying the talkers were women only, but without fail the ones who got irritated with meetings and just wanted to be about their business tended to be men. Make of that what you will
