Speaking of smilies, general nekro can you fire up a thread about smilies at non tennis section if possible?

It might be fun.

New smileys added. Click "Get more" on the smiley list and you'll see them.

I've added a thread in the castle for you to post smiley faces at your leisure.

Normally, when a match is going on, people post messages like
"It is 30-40 break point for rafa" etc. I do realize the need for people
to share their excitement with fellow tennis fans.

However, such messages do not have lasting value compared to
the discussion that we have in various threads.

It would be a nice idea if there is another mechanism for
sharing "during-the-match-excitement" in a manner that does not
interfere with other threads (including a thread for the said
tournament). Also, we don't really need to archieve the
"during the match excitement" messages as they do not have
lasting value.

I believe it is technically possible and you have already
created a chat function for this. It just appears that people
are not using it.

My wish would be to separate "during the match minor comments"
from regular threads.

I turned the live chat off because other users had argued the opposite - they wanted to see the in-match comments within the thread.

What we do now is open the live chat for specific big matches, ie the Rogers semis, and then I later merge the commentary from the chat into a match thread.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference, but more users seemed to prefer a running commentary being logged.

I agree it is a matter of personal preference. If your impression of
what people prefer is based on a small subgroup of users, perhaps
you might want to initiate a real poll (with no discussion, as this
is really a matter of personal preference and there is no point
arguing; but people need to know the difference between the
options that they are voting for) in which all registered users
can participate and you can use the result to inform the Frontier's
decision.

As Britbox has explained above, we have tried both things and we find that on-line chat is really best only for big tournaments/matches. Some comments will be "of the moment," and seem banal, but they can be helpful to people, like me, today, for example, who couldn't watch the match. I think everyone is used to wading through quick comments on an active-match thread. And having a live-chat thread doesn't prevent others from making banal comments on other threads. The match threads tend to be more "in-the-moment," but the discussion topics tend to be free of such ephemeral banalities. I think we can live with both, and understand the difference.

hmm, now I am back on, I noticed one or two 'multi avatars' or 4 or 5 avatars all across the page like a comic strip..

this is really untidy..makes reading posts difficult (visual clutter) and makes the site look downmarket (which it is not), hopefully this will not be the visual way ahead.

I was discussing that with Murat yesterday. You can now turn signatures off

If you go to the "User CP" option (in the grey bar under the main menu).

Then on the left hand side, click "Edit Options" and untick "Display users' signatures in their posts." and then scroll down and click the "Update Options" button.

Other posters signature strips are then hidden on your own forum view.

That works a treat, thank you! Eliminates what is visual noise for some, joyous self-expression for others. :clap

Could we pleas have a Page up and Page down indicators in each page?

Also, is it possible to post without any 'thank you' note right after?

Many thanks!
