1. Berdych sought and got wild card only 1 day ago. It is tough to imagine he
refusing it now.

2. Isner should pull out if he has any sense. But, he will not as W-S is his
home town and he goes to the matches from home.

Also, this tournament starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday to give players
some time before the Monday start of the US open.

Finally, this tournament arranges a free helicopter ride from Winston-Salem
to Flushing Meadows, for the winner, runner-up and their group (coach, hitting
partner, physio etc) right on Saturday a few hours after the conculsion of
the final.

Isner / BYE. If he reads that he should consider the more appropriate meaning and not play. He's played a ton lately and is only jeopardizing his form at the infinitely more important US Open. I can understand though why he's trying to keep the points he's gained on the other hand, but really, I wouldn't play here if I were him. He's gotta be feeling it.

I think Isner want to win the Bonus Challenge for the extra money. It is still a bad idea
and he is being penny wise and pound foolish.

On the other hand, if he wins the first three matches, he will be #1 in Bonus Challenge.

Seems like Isner and Birdman both made the clever choice and withdrew from Salem. Sorry for the ticket holders though...

Yep.. But smart move for both players if they want to increase their odds of making it to the second week at Flushing Meadows

I have never watched Steve Johnson, but he beat Seppi today . Not a small scalp for a dude outside top 100. Anyone seen him play?

Yeah. He has an absolutely ATOMIC forehand, decent serve, and atrocious backhand. Not a bad player. His forehand is really fun to watch. Similar game to Jack Sock. Could get inside the top 50 at some point I think.

Monfils was in a big TB in the first v. Dolgopolov, then pulled off the win in the 2nd. I didn't see it, but I bet it was entertaining.

Well, that was a bust. Monfils retired in the 2nd. Did see, so I don't know what happened.

Just heard from Fox Sports here in Sydney that Monfils could be doubtful for the USO.Monfils
sustained a abdominal injury which forced him to retire in the final.

Such a shame, if he can't play at the USO. He's so talented and entertaining, but he just can't seem to stay healthy for an entire season.

I am wondering if he is always coming back a tad bit early from these injuries...and hurting something else when he is not %100. I think Rafa taking 7 moths or so off, taking his time and prepping his body slowly up was a great call.

Still, congrats to Meltzer. I am sure he would have rather played and win but he will take the 250 pointsa and some nice dough to spend in New York.
