1. Ferrer has indicated that he will likely drop out of this citing some injury.

2. The original tournament site is under renovation. Apparently, they are conducting
it some makeshift place this year.

I think the picture is what the site will look like. Pretty cool looking. Hadn't heard that about Ferrer but not surprised. He could easily win this tournament though. I wonder if any one will step in his place.

Ferrer wants to be nice and rested when he's being run to death in his "round robin" matches! Depending on the draw, I doubt he'll win even 1; as usual! :cover

David Ferrer: ´It´s one of my best years. I´m not sure if I am going to play in Valencia´

Ferrer withdrew from Wimbledon, Bastad, Hamburg, Toronto and Cincinnati this year due to elbow injury. He hasn't fully recovered: 'I still receive treatment and conduct daily routines', revealed 'Ferru', who doesn't know if he is going to play ATP 250 Valencia this week: 'I have to talk to Juan-Carlos (Ferrero). It is difficult, as my elbow is not at 100%, but I hope to be able playing there'.

Most top players are burned out by the end of the season! That's why I'm so shocked that Nole appears to be stronger this time of year than the others! If you look at past eras, it wasn't unusual for Sampras, Agassi, Courier, and others to be knocked out of Paris and have "no-names" winning the YEC! If Nole keeps this up, he'll own all the records except the major one; already the Masters series will be his alone and he'll set #'s hard to surpass in this homogenized group of players now and in the future! :dodgy: :p :ras:

Tuesday's Results!

Round 1
(5) B Paire (FRA) bt N Gombos (SVK)---3-6, 6-3, 6-4
A Bedene (SLO) bt (8) J Chardy (FRA)---3-6, 6-2, 6-1
J Sousa (POR) bt G Muller (LUX)---7-6(9), 6-3
M Zverev (GER) bt T Bellucci (BRA)---7-6(4), 6-7(2), 7-6(5)
T Daniel (JPN) bt M Przysiezny (POL)---4-6, 7-6(2), 6-3
D Brands (GER) bt N Kyrgios (AUS)---6-4, 2-6, 7-6(3)

One seed (Chardy) loses, Kyrgios loses to No. 170 Brands (ayeayeayeayeaye) and Paire continues his very nice season. Nice to see Daniel win. I see and post a lot of names but Polish names give me the biggest fits. Is there a law in Poland that requires every word to have a Z in it?

Kyrgios has absolutely no reason to be burnt out, he has played only 42 matches all year long and he is the youngest of the top 30.

The reason he is losing is that he is not really focusing enough and that is why I do think he will never be living up to his talent. His head is not where it should be.

Brands' no slouch! I seem to remember he gave Nadal all he wanted and more in the 1st round of the FO a couple years ago! He got the 1st set and took Rafa to the limit in a 2nd set TB before closing Brands out in 4! I haven't seen him since, but he has game! Everyone's vulnerable this time of year! ;-) :ras:

He also seems to be focussed almost exclusively on Slams, and doesn't put in the same effort in other tournaments.
