So.. Trump claimed that the MMR vaccine could potentially be lethal and might be involved in the rise of autism. We all know that there was some bogus research about 30 years ago. This research has been debunked many times. Many times!

While I think it was incredibly irresponsible for Trump to make that claim, I do wonder if - because of all the conspiracy theories - might it not make sense to just split those 3 vaccines in the MMR vaccine? If that reassures parents, even if it costs more, doesn't it make sense? Just to put this whole thing to bed once and for all? Seems like common sense to me

I see your point, but if you give an inch to an absurd conspiracy, you simply don't know where it will end. As you said, the research linking vaccines (actually, an specific one only) to autism is bogus. Period. You simply cannot make this kind of concession, otherwise you validate, to some extent at least, the bogus argument.

that's the point. You don't have to agree with his argument. But it's the dialectic that's missed. Most of the guys in Hollywood these days either have superficial arguments or talk about trivial issues. There was substance there, and that's what's missed

interesting podcast with Timothy Snyder. He makes the point that I hadn't considered, but as soon as he said it, it made sense... Trump is going to claim some sort of terrorist attack before the mid-terms. It's the Hungary election playbook, which Orban lost. He'll claim the Iranians are responsible. But we all know by now how smart they are. They WANT to punish Trump, they know that any action will benefit him, so they won't do it. Just like they got Carter to lose, they are trying to do the same to Trump. Something to watch out for.

Life would be so much easier if the Dems didn't say such stupid things. But it's interesting that Snyder points out that promising to get things back to what it was like before Trump is exactly what they can't afford to say anymore. One thing is absolutely clear in a divided America, telling people that going back to a status quo that no one liked with income inequality, excessive social spending is untenable for both left and right. They actually have to have a case that they will try to follow through on. I think he's right. And one things for sure, going after the corruption is low hanging fruit. But they better make sure they go after all of it. Not just the Trump corruption but the nonsense on their side too. This means that they'll need to disavow their own DEI crap too. So far though, I've not really heard much. The most interesting stuff is coming out of the radicals on the left, and that's alarming

To be fair... Ossoff in Georgia has actually said some stuff, but it's worrying that Dems are so bad at politics. To be clear, I'm not supporting the Dems. I just think that Republicans are not conservatives right now. They are populists in the main, and they are ideologically captured by the most corrupt President in American history
