Just my two cents worth.. I always thought the sisters won doubles with their style of power not with a lot of strategy .. As you get older and the service is lacking the punch, Its paramount to stick the volleys and really have to time the cross to neutralized the baseliner returner. I think if they would abandon the stagger formation and try to both take the net, they would put so much pressure on the other team. That is a lot but that is how I was taught to win at doubles. Still a great effort by Vee and Serena.

I didn't see the match so i'll take your word for this. Another disappointing loss by Madison Keys. Shame.
@Vince Evert Maddie started the match on fire.. Zheng made some court adjustment in the 2nd set. took a big lead .. Madison roared back .. flame out in the tbr. took off like a rocket ship in the 3rd set with 5 -0 lead and then mentally she checked out of the match.. her serve abandon her and she stopped coming forward Madison hit the ball harder and Zheng kept riding her pace. This is what is so alarming. Madison made zero adjustments. I truly think she is talking about her happy meds.. She sweated them out and just hit the wall mentally in the second half of the 3rd set;

Some serious gamesmanship from Naomi late in the 3rd set. She had just dropped serve and it was 4-2 Mertens when Naomi called for the trainer because she say she had an Achilles issue. Mind you, she was moving around just fine until she started losing and then moved around fine after the MTO. Got what she wanted, broke the momentum breaking at love and then winning the match 7-5. Bush league stuff from somebody who should be better than that. Mertens is already a headcase, I completely expected her to lose after that MTO.

Well I can't see Naomi doing anything that other tennis players do - trying to break the oponents rythm. Apart from that I only saw the highlights from the match and saw some of the best tennis I've seen this year and I'm glad that Naomi is back on top of her game - but bravo to Mertens for a good fight
