I said best bet - meaning, to win a Slam. I just think that Shelton has more upside than Fritz - that he hasn't unlocked his full potential yet. There's no guaranteeing that he will and, to be honest, I think his chances of winning a Slam eventually aren't great. But I'd say he's got a better chance than Fritz, if only because of their respective ages.hmmmm... seeing as Fritz has already been to a slam final, it's a bit unfair to crown Shelton as the best since Roddick no?
That's what happens! Fritz got too full of himself! He was so amused by how he was playing! It didn't last; esp. in the crunch when it counted!that is truly shocking. He cruised the previous rounds didn't he? The hell happened??

Didn’t his brother beat Sinner at the French Open this year after spotting him a 2 sets to love lead? Ditto here for the other Bro.Taylor Fritz blows 2-set lead, falls to Francisco Cerundolo in US Open
No. 9 seed Taylor Fritz blew a two-set lead at the US Open and went out in a shocker with a 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 loss at the hands of No. 24 Francisco Cerundolo on Saturday.
"I don't know how I let that happen today," Fritz said.
Fritz stormed through his first two rounds, losing a total of 11 games, and there was no hint of trouble when he broke Cerundolo to open the third set. But Cerundolo broke right back and started to feel more comfortable in his first time playing in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
"I think fourth and fifth I played a really good tennis that I wasn't finding that tennis in the previous sets and the previous rounds," the Argentine said.
Poor fellow. he'll be feeling bad for a long time. maybe he needs a sports psychologist.
this is the danger for Carlito. Anyone can just go flat after not being tested. Of course he's an apex predator so the chances of something like that happening without him being able to find other solutions is vanishingly smallTaylor Fritz blows 2-set lead, falls to Francisco Cerundolo in US Open

Does he though? Tennis history is littered with players who have huge potential upside but never realised it. Dimitrov, Verdasco, Xavier Malisse, I could go on... these are guys who've been to slam semis but never further, but easily had the talent to go further. I would trust all of those guys I mentioned over Shelton. I don't know what it is about him, I think he's got the stones for it, but I'm not sure he has the tennis IQ in the toughest moments. I actually see him as more of a Verdasco than anything else to be honest. What I find really shocking about Fritz is that in a match against the very top guys I have more belief in his ability to meet the moment, which is what you need in a slam final. I can see Shelton flat track bullying his way deep in a slam against weaker guys (perhaps he might be more dependable than Fritz in doing that), but against the top guys? I haven't seen anything to make me believe in him in a final against an established killer. Don't get me wrong, I would love for you to be rightI said best bet - meaning, to win a Slam. What's the one thing all 3 of these guys (Dimitrov, Verdasco, Xavier Malisse) had in common at the beginning and prime of their careers.. ? I will give you a hint.. WTADoes he though? I hear you, and just to be clear, I'm not saying he will win a Slam. I just think that of the Americans playing right now, he's got the best chance (unless Learner Tien has another octave). I think what is "about him" is that he's even younger, in terms of tennis years, than his chronological age. He got started a bit later than most, and he's less polished than most 23 year olds. There are no guarantees he gets significantly better, but the potential is there.Does he though? Tennis history is littered with players who have huge potential upside but never realised it. If you had one player to win the match for your family welfare, Fritz or Shelton at this point in their career.. I Trust Fritz more than Sheldon.. I see two possible paths for Shelton going forward. One -- and probably the most likely scenario -- is that he continues as is, with flashes but nothing more than maybe a couple more Masters and a bunch of 250s/500s. In other words, he remains a top 10 guy for the next 5+ years and maybe dips into the top 5, but never really challenges the best of the best. Two, he tightens up his game, and is able to bring home a Slam or two. Even in that scenario, I don't see him every being on the same level as Sincaraz, but he might have a period of time in which he's a solid 3-5 guy.
Even if the former, he'll arguably end up with better accomplishments than Fritz. Taylor has the Slam final, but only one Masters, two 500s, and eight 250s. Shelton's already got two Masters, three 500s, and two 250s...meaning, at five years younger, he's already got more Masters and 500s than Fritz, and also the same number of Slam SFs (two), though Fritz has the one Final and more 250s. I suspect that Shelton will appear in a couple Slam finals, even if he never wins one.
ah! Ok so you're looking at recent accomplishments. That's fine. As @the AntiPusher says, who do you trust in a match against one of the big boys? Fritz or Shelton? Personally I would go with Fritz. Obviously it's moot now. Let me be clear. I like Shelton, I prefer watching him play to Fritz. The issue is trust. I would expect Shelton to be boat raced against the likes of Sincaraz, Zverev etc. I know he's beaten Medvedev in their one meeting, but that was when Medvedev was slumping hard. If they played in this tournament? I think Meddy would beat him like a drum. That's the issue, something has to happen for Shelton to win this thing. Before this shocking upset I could easily imagine Fritz somehow being able to do it, because I trust him to handle matches against the big boys betterI hear you, and just to be clear, I'm not saying he will win a Slam. well... Fritz still has potentially at least 7 or 8 years of tennis life left if he wants. Over the period I would probably still bet on Fritz. At least until Ben shows me something that he can be a serious threat to the serious guys. That's the issue I have with him. I meant it when I said he's a bit of a Verdasco. You see him play and you think... damn! He has the tools beat anyone. But I've seen zero sign he won't Verdasco himself in a serious match deep in a slam. That's my issue. Trust me, I want to be wrong. There's nothing like a leftie that can really hit that ball. It's different and fun to watchNone of the above, from AP and Fed, do I disagree with - but you keep shifting what I'm actually saying. All I said is that I think Shelton is more likely to win a Slam than Fritz. Do you agree or disagree with that? Don't forget that Shelton is 23 and Fritz is almost 29.
