The US Open so far have been pretty much a mere formality, a straight forward non-event except for Hewitt-Delpo, Stan-Baggy and some young guns bailing out way too early. I really hope some action and drama finally starts to kick in and gets things going from the 4th round onwards. Hewitt looking good so far, up 2-0 in sets. There is a fantastic prospect of having a 4th round retro classic between Haas and Hewitt. It's going to make you feel as if it was 1999 - 2004 all over again. Two veterans and old dogs of war battling it out for a QF spot under the lights. Sounds great.
Berdych-Wawrinka could potentially be a cracker too. Nadal-Kohls matches have always been entertaining and highly competitive. Gasquet-Raonic is a telling match rankings-wise and for both men's season. Richi trying to finally stop his weird 4th round curse and Raonic looking ahead to his first ever Slam QF. Ferrer-Tipsa is the rematch of last year's thriller. Robredo-Fed is a nice one for sentimental reasons. If Granollers and Istomin complete the 4th round, we will have at least some "new" faces in the 2nd week of a slam. Such a pity that Del Potro, Janowicz, Gulbis and Dimitrov are already out. Put them into the mix and we would have had a phenomenal set of 4th round matches but I guess one cannot have it all.
edit: Didn't know Donskoy already turned 23 this year. Strange.
