Nastase is definitely a guy for whom the Slam count doesn't do justice. He was the best player on tour for two years (72-73), with one of the better single-Slam seasons in 73 (that honor goes to Andy Murray in 2016). By my still-in-development system, the best single-Slam seasons are:

You have a criteria that keeps Bjorn Borg off this list? W/O chk'n I'm sure his "1976" would qualify! Am I missing something? Does Connors' season take precedent! OTTH, Borg won Wimbledon, The WCT Final, The US Pro, & other assorted events! He was named POY, #1 by Tennis Mag., & was Runner-Up to Connors at the USO! Borg pretty much owned Connors after that w/ Jimmy winning 1978 USO over Borg who had an injured thumb! Bjorn was literally, unintentionally slamming his racket into the ground after a serve he wasn't able to grip the racket well enuf! They had a couple epic battles at Wimbledon, but Borg wore him down in 5 sets!

That's one of the problems with modern society and probably why there is such a high level of mental health issues among the younger generations. No longer is it good enough to be one of the best at anything in your own local area. Instead you are frequently compared with the best in the world... not only the active plyers of a trade... but compared to the best ever of all time. This now seems to be the way the world operates - you can't be moderately good at anything - you have to be one of the best of all time or you are chump change. This extends way beyond tennis and sports...

I stopped reading at the second phrase, as this is clearly not greatest post of all time.

Yeah but he doesn't have to be compared to them to have worth. he's a two-slam champ who's battling to be number 1 in the world. That's not small change...

Shivashish is doing a Fiero impression, aka "If he ain't peak Borg/Federer/Novak, he sucks."

There are only about 20 Open Era players, plus or minus one or two, that have better careers than Zverev.

Borg's single Slams seasons are all down the list a bit, but not so far. And yes, Connors was better in '76, at least according to my calculations. Both won a Slam and reached a QF; Borg did reach another final and win the WCT and another Masters equiv (Boston), but Connors wound four Masters equivalents and a lot more minor titles.

That said, Borg was better in 1978, but Connors finished #1. I figure that Connors didn't deserve 75, 77, and 78. 75 was close, but Ashe and probably Borg were slightly better, imo. Vilas deserved it in 77 and Borg in 78. Connors and Lendl were both better than Mac in 82, so if Connors "stole" three #1s, he maybe "lost" one in 82 to partially make up for it.

Okay I am going to withdraw my statement as it was too harsh and brash. Zverev has a place for himself just that I don't find him particularly interesting. Anyway. That is not going to undermine what he's achieved.

I just prefer Alcaraz from this generation.

Tbh at this moment, Roger and Rafa have retired so I really don't care about anyone else apart from Djokovic who is my favorite and also Alcaraz who I admire a lot from the younger generation. I do respect Sinner but I would not call him my favorite from this generation, its Alcaraz. I wish the best for both Alcaraz and Sinner but to talk about my own sentiments I hope Djokovic comes back wins one more slam. That's all.
