Alcaraz with that mustache lol. He played well though. Seems to be in fine form tbh. What about Sinner?
Sinner had to close down his 2026 season, due to an ongoing knee injury, after meeting with a top knee doctor in Lyon, he has to continue his rehab and rest and no surgery is needed, Sinner said " he and his team have to look at his long term career and he is expected back for the 2027 season

Frenchman Arthur Gea , 21, records the biggest win of his career so far, defeating 3rd seed Ben Shelton in 2 TB sets 76(6) 76(3) and his fist win over a Top Ten player
Shelton looked lackluster and got outplayed, Gea completely neutralized Sheltons service, very aggressive in the match, rarely made mistake, he builds and varies., serves very well.
Gea has made the 4th round, this is his first Masters 1000 debut and will face either Francisco Cerundolo or Jakub Mensik
This has been a break through season for Gea, winning his first ATP title 250 in Los Cabos in July, then reached the 4th round at the USO, as a LL,losing in a 5 set battle to Zandschulp. The Frenchman has won 20 of his last 24 matches and enters the Top 50 at 21 yo.

The internet is saying he's giving Freddie vibes. I agree.

I understand his knee was injured in his rehab, and a reason that he didnt come back to the tour earlier
Being in the medical profession usual time for achilles is 9 months you cant rush back and also for some athletes it is a season ending injury especially footballers, I think it was more than a Little Sting in his knee, he signaled to his team he wanted to retire? he showed discomfort? Rune needs to be able to win the big points, in matches, that will come with time and also he has to manage his energy in matches, and endurance again that will come with more match time
I still think he should play challengers for awhile, to get more match time on court, which will help him going forward, going out in first round matches dosent help his match play or endurance
Rune just accepted a wildcard to Brussels next week.

IMO, it just proves my pt. that tennis has gotten entirely too physical! The elites are literally breaking down! The Big 3 were the only exceptions! :angry-face:
Actually, only Federer and Djokovic. Even Nadal's broke down with injuries, and missed time/slams every other year or so. Fed and Djokovic went pretty much unscathed into their mid-30s.

W/ Alcaraz loss & Sinner taking the rest of the season off, Sascha's secured the #1 YE ranking being the 2nd German to achieve this goal; BECKER!
Second German to be #1, but first to be YE #1. Becker was only #1 for 12 weeks...kind of crazy to think about.

The title seems far more open now, with Carlos out. Zverev seems like the likely winner, but who knows. It is a good opportunity for FAA or Demon, or Jodar. But lots of guys who could win this.

I would not right off Hubi, a former champion, and they have the courts this year are playing faster, he has been playing well and this faster surface suits his game

If we've learned anything from Alcaraz's performance in Shanghai, its that he really needs to shave off that moustache!
It was Alcaraz's worst performance since he came back on the tour from his wrist injury against Bergs

Hmm,
If you had watched Sinners 1st match at Wimbledon this year against Kecmanovic, I doubt that you did ) he slipped on the grass and had a bad fall at the baseline? clutching his hip/leg and right knee? any player especially in the 1st week at Wimbledon can slip on the grass, it was a case of bad luck not a case of being too physical?
While he escaped serious injury at that time, he went onto win Wimbledon, though after the tournament his right knee began to play up, that has sidelined him for the rest of the 2026 season.

Tommy Paul easily beats the defending champion Vacherot ( was on a 10 match winning streak here ) 64 62 to reach the last 16
Vacherot will leave the Top 30 after this tournament
Paul well inside the Race to Turin

You're right, and based on pure probability, I'd probably have him second after Zverev.

Either way, I'm hoping it is a new guy. I am kind of rooting for FAA or Demon, as they're pretty much the best players 25+ who haven't won big titles (still in their primes, that is).
