Collignon takes out Shelton in straight sets. Ben didn't reach a deuce on opponents serve the whole match.
Just posted on that Don, I am not surprised, until he gets a decent return game, has better rally tolerance, and his point construction does my head in at times, he hasnt got any better in over 2 years, he had a good chance and has stuffed it up big time, with Sinner out, they were projected to meet in the QFs, though Sinner has a H2H 12-1 over Shelton

Same old Ben.

Upper half of the draw is wide open and kind of fell apart too. Interesting blend of good/established players like FAA, F. Cerundolo, Tiafoe. Then you have guys like Landaluce, Kouame, Collignon, which can probably beat all other mentioned players on a day.

Not really. At least in the previous slams, he was losing to Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Sinner. I can live with that.

With Sinner out, everything was there for the taking, and Ben laid an egg. I love Ben, but this performance is not defensible.
Karma is a Bitch isnt it Phil?
Until Bens gets a better coach and can get a better return game and understands how to construct a point and rally tolerance he isnt going to better, he has been the same for over 2 years now? No Excuses Left
You were trying to tell me earlier he could win RG this year...............dont make me laugh

Is this the biggest upset in tennis history? Seriously. I can't remember anything this severe. I mean, this isn't Rafa losing to Novak after being up two sets...not only is it a far inferior player, but 5-1 in the third! Just hard to get my mind around it.

Doohan beating Becker in 1987 at Wimbledon is bigger. Anyone beating Rafa in Paris. And a couple of his losses at Wimbledon. Leyton Hewitt was World number one and Wimbledon champion when he lost in the first round of Wimbledon in 2003.

This is a big one, but not so big given that Sinner was ailing. I still find the final three sets to be mysterious, for the reason I said above, but watching the highlights, it isn’t so shocking…

Ben is a boy, and he’ll probably always be a boy…

Reminds me of when Mary Joe fernandez came back from 1-6 and 1-5 down to beat my teenage crush Sabatini at RG 1993 quarters.....who had 4-5 match points too. I had a huge Sergio Tacchini poster of Sabatini on my wall and that night I could not look at her !

My hubby felt the same btw, about Sabatini, any time she lost, and we could not mention tennis for days :)

I thought about that one, but Sabatini wasn't the #1 seed & favored! IMO, Gabby had a problem w/ other Spanish speakers! Heaven knows she shouldn't lose to the likes of Fernandez, Martinez, or Sanchez Vicario, but she did quite a few times! Sabatini so underachieved! By the time she started beating Steffi on aregular basis, then along comes Monica Seles! She just couldn't catch a break having to overcome vets like Martina & Chris, then deal w/ her contemporaries at such a young age! :astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

OMG..Have you ever saw her in person.. I did in Miami.. She is a heartbreaker Goddess :broken-heart:

Stunningly beautiful! I saw her on David Letterman wearing a black leather jacket/skirt which I knew a female friend would've loved seeing! As pretty as she was, you'd never realize she was as much an Amazon as Steffi & Monica! All of them taller w/ more muscles than Martina in her day! The Tennis Intelligentsia gave her so much grief for being this monster, overpower'n young kids on the tour! What a joke & bunch of fk'n hypocrites as the Wms sisters were flex'n they were so much larger than the other players on tour outside of Lindsay Davenport at the time! :astonished-face::angry-face::yawningface::fearful-face:

Happy for Berrettini who has made R3 at RG for the first time in 5 years, with the amount of injuries he has endured great to see his smiling face
A straight sets win over Rinderknech 64 64 64

Seeds that have lost Thursday 28th May,

Sinner (1) I cant believe that I am typing he lost, trying to move on quickly:) ( in saying that every player is beatable, though not when he was playing for a career slam. Meh! )
Shelton (5) Darderi (14) Rinderknech (22) Vacherot (16) withdrew with a foot injury

Last match of the day another 2 unseeded players,
Italian Arnaldi takes out Tsits 76(2) 57 63 62

Again, the tournament did just get really interesting.

Novak - In his own category. The big question is whether, at 39, he can make it through against guys 1-2 decades younger. He's the name to beat, and a fun fact is that he's won more GS matches this year than anyone else. But...he's old. If he makes it through to the semis, he's got to be the favorite, but he could also be taken out in the next round or two.

Zverev - He should be the new favorite, but how can we not doubt that he'll find a way to blow this? He should zoom through the next two matches (Halys, then Khachanov or de Jong) and if Jodar cools down, he could have an easy QF.

Veteran darkhorses - Auger-Aliassime, Ruud, Paul, Rublev, De Minaur, Khachanov. These guys have pretty much been written off for Slams, but one could sneak through.

Young Bloods - Mensik, Tien, Jodar, Fonseca, Kouame...lots of talent here, but also hard to see anyone of these guys winning a Slam. I mean, Jodar just played his first ATP match earlier this year; Kouame is 17, and a young 17 (March). I wouldn't be suprised if the eventual winner comes from the Fonzie vs Novak match...if Joao beats Novak, he might get that boost he's been needing for things to come together for him.

Clay guys/journeymen - Borges, Dos Cerundolo, Cobolli, Tirante, Tabilo, Carreno Busta, etc. Very unlikely for the eventual winner to come from here, but all of them should look to players like Gaston Gaudio and Albert Costa to remind them of surprise Roland Garros champs.

A Fun Stat,
First time in 20 years that there are 3 teenagers in the 3rd round on the mens side at RG,
Kouame, Jodar and Fonseca
Then,
Nadal, Djokovic, Monfils

As in the Aussie Open in Jan., Djokovic's biggest problem w/b to get to the SF! Today's players R dangerous & can run his old arse into :rip:.:fearful-face:
