we shall see.. I think these guys are carbon copy of each other although as you say, Ruud is more accomplished of the two players.. tommy is a grinder..noOne beats him in straight sets or bagel/breadsticks.. the guy make the proper counters during a match.. I like his game
I told ya so.. I was spot on with this one.

6-4 7-6 4-6 6-7 3-3

OK, just watched highlights. My thoughts:
  • Novak looked pretty good. He seemed a touch listless - not quite the limitless energy and Gumby-esque acrobatics of his prime, but he was making some incredible shots and seemed to be playing well overall. This was also good to see Fonzie beat him fair and square.
  • Novak remains the all-time class act in losing...I would have loved to hear what he said to Fonseca - but I can only imagine the words of appreciation and encouragement.
  • Fonseca's touch is underrated...even though in the highlights he looked out-matched at the net, he was making some lovely dropshots and just a dynamic game. He's got the whole package.
  • Fonseca's backhand is underrated. His forehand are Del Potro-ian bullets, but he seems to have an accurate, strong two-hander.
  • The best part: the little boy smile when he won. Priceless.
Anyhow, Fonzie showed what he's capable of. This is a future multi-Slam winner and quite possibly an all-time great. Watching the highlights at least, you could see a diverse game coming together at a higher octave. I'm sure he'll have his bad matches, but I think we're going to see a top ten player from here on out, for the most part, as he keeps climbing.
That all seems to be the case with Fonseca. My first real look at him, and he has a great head on his young shoulders. Compare this to Ben Shelton. One thing that impressed me and almost frightened me was that he was almost like a throwback to the days of power tennis, the guy who kills your chances with aces struck at the right time. Mentally, he's tough, wasn't satisfied with having a good run at it: he was there to win that match. So many players enjoy the little perfumed cuddle with victorious legends at the net, the pat on the head - this chap wasn't overwhelmed and didn't seem to be there to do anything other than win...

Actually De Jong who came in as a LL after Fils withdrew has made the 4th round over KAA ( 13) went 5 sets

Zverev having no trouble against the Frenchman Halys won the 1st set 64 and is up a break leading 4-2 in the 2nd set
edit Zverev leads 2 sets to love and is cruising.

JFonsec said that he wanted to be in the same half of the draw with Novak.. he stated that last week...this is the attitude that spawns eventual grand slam champions.. Novak's body is in a world of hurt and pain.. I seriously doubt if he plays the pre SW19 grass tournaments.
