Saw the match and he did get a warning. The commentators in Denmark didn't hear/get why he got the warning (they saw it from a studio) but was told it was because of the ball incident against the lines person. I only heard the umpire give him the warning too but also didn't hear why.According to the NYT, he got a warning. And, in that case, Tiafoe was wrong to say "nothing happened," so then he does mean maybe he should have been defaulted. It seemed like a lot of nothing.
But a couple of years ago, if you remember, doubles player Miyu Kato and her partner were defaulted after Kato accidentally hit a ball kid in the neck when returning a ball to her — not even swatting it in frustration. They originally got a warning, but the other team complained, and the got defaulted. That, to me, seems a total misreading of the rule. Some years back, Roger did the same thing...hit a ball kid when trying to, helpfully, nudge the ball towards him with his racquet. Roger apologized and petted him on his head, and they moved on. Someone needs to clarify this rule to the umpires. I think they should rewrite it for clarity.
Which is why I don't like men's and women's singles matches being mixed in the 2nd week. I don't think it's fair that Carlos gets 2 days of rest, while Boisson and Gauff have to play back-to-back days (with the winner have to play a 3rd match in 4 days to win the Championship on Saturday). It should be all women's QFs on Tuesday and all men's QFs on Wednesday.Well it's down to the Final 4 with Carlos having an extra day of rest! He should defend his title, but Novak might shock the world yet again!![]()
I am hoping Novak can find a way to win a set against Sinner, maybe 1st or 2nd. I think he still has that in him, but I might be wrong and Sinner goes in his lockdown mode and doesn't offer any chances. Anything other than Sinner's win is an upset. Just looking for a good match.Bold prediction. Not that Djokovic will lose in straights, though.
You do understand that even if they played all the R16 matches on the same day like Wimby used to do. The women always had to come back the next day to play QF. So no matter the configuration. As long as the bottom half and top half play on separate days, someone will either get an extra day or get no day off during the fortnight.Which is why I don't like men's and women's singles matches being mixed in the 2nd week. But at least Boisson-Gauff is the night match today, and not some random men's doubles match.
Novak can hope the weather is dicey like today and they close the roof. He's very good indoors. I'm not saying it will change the outcome of Bean moving through, but it could level the playing field a bit.I am hoping Novak can find a way to win a set against Sinner, maybe 1st or 2nd. Also, the women play best of 3 with no days off all year long. You know which half of the draw you're in. Prepare yourself accordingly. Same with the men. It's not the greatest hardship (or unfairness) in tennis. The AO used to commit an UFE in that they deliberately scheduled one men's SF a day earlier than the other, but they fixed that. You do understand that even if they played all the R16 matches on the same day like Wimby used to do. All true about the women play BO3 all year anyway. We've had that discussion before here. Some people are never happy w/ the scheduling even though it doesn't even affect them as a couch pillow. Also, the women play best of 3 with no days off all year long. I work in the office Wednesdays and Fridays. Wimbledon was great when the men's QFs were on Wednesday and SFs was on Friday. At least I knew the matches were still going on during my one-hour lunch, and I could watch them (actually, I make it a yearly tradition to take off on SF Friday since it falls so close to my birthday). All true about the women play BO3 all year anyway. I have a Wimbledon birthday, too, fellow Cancerian! Well, not this year, so I guess mine is before yours. Now it's a week later than it used to be. Let me tell you how much it sucked that the Sinner-Bublik match ended so early into my lunch period, and I even took my lunch 20 minutes earlier (11:50 instead of my normal 12:10 just to catch the end).
Alcaraz v. Musetti should be fun to watch, but I say Carlos in 3.
Sinner v. Djokovic will be a bit more boring, but still, Sinner in 3.
Not at all comfortable. Just hasn't settled in. Lots of uncharacteristic errors. Musetti looks calm. But Carlos nothing like the level he had v. Paul. First serve is a big problem, so far, but expect him to get much better.I'm not able to watch but am checking the score regulary...saw that Alcaraz broke Musetti, but Musetti broke back. How is Carlos looking?
