The Tournament

The Internationaux de Strasbourg has long played a pivotal role in the build-up to Roland Garros. Founded in 1987, the tournament established itself as one of the final and most important clay-court warm-up events before the French Open. In 2024, it entered a new era with its elevation to WTA 500 status, underlining its growing prestige on the calendar.

Staged on the outdoor clay courts of the Tennis Club de Strasbourg, the event offers players ideal conditions to fine-tune their form ahead of Paris. The intimate venue creates a close, knowledgeable atmosphere where tactical clay-court tennis takes centre stage. Long rallies, intelligent point construction, and physical endurance are regularly on display as players sharpen their games for the season’s second Grand Slam.

Strasbourg is one of Europe’s most distinctive and culturally rich cities. Situated near the German border in the Alsace region, it blends French elegance with Germanic heritage, creating a unique architectural and culinary identity.

The city’s historic centre, known as Petite France, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, characterised by half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, and canals that wind through the old quarter. Towering above it all is the magnificent Strasbourg Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and one of the tallest medieval buildings in Europe.

Beyond its picturesque charm, Strasbourg is also a modern political hub. It hosts key European institutions, including the European Parliament, giving the city international significance alongside its regional character.

In late spring, as café terraces fill and the weather warms, Strasbourg provides an elegant and relaxed backdrop for world-class tennis. Its blend of history, culture, and European sophistication makes it a fitting stage for one of the WTA Tour’s most important clay-court stops.

Quite excited to see the new trial partnership of Mboko and Wim Fissette
Will Emma Raducanu actually take to the court? :) after withdrawing from many tournaments after IW this year, also she has re-hired Andrew Richardson again, who guided her to her USO win, then he was sacked shortly after? how long will he last this time?

Vicky Mboko (1) will play her first round match on Tuesday 19th May against Frenchwoman Boisson, as I mentioned, Vicky is working with Wim Fissette on a trial basis.
Alexandrova (2) will also play her first round match against American Li
Raducanu who hasnt played since IW, trying to get over a virus, plays against Frenchwoman Parry, with her former coach Andrew Richardson, who she has rehired again.

Nice win for Kasatkina over Samsonova. Let's see if she can claw her way back up the rankings. Always been a bit of a streaky player with yo-yo rankings.

Just watching Mboko in her first round match
Vicky won the 1st set 64, against Frenchwoman Boisson, rusty, which is to be expected, more ufe errors more than she wanted, she will address them hopefully as the match progresses
Vicky broke early in the 2nd set, was up 40 love and now Lois has a BP? Vicky's fhand wide, broken, shades of the 1st set
2 all 2nd set
Vicky has just broken lets see if she can consolidate the break this time, her fhand which is usually strong has been a bit wayward today, though that can just be rusty
Vicky consolidates and leads 4-2
Vicky 5-3
Vicky has MP as Boisson fhand wide
Another MP saved from Boisson good fhand winner
Vicky with her 3rd MP
Vicky wins 64 63, rusty though she is through to the QFs, Vicky had to pull out of Rome due to having her wisdom teeth out
Vicky will play against another Canadian player Fernandez in the QF

Alexandrova 2nd set was upset in 3 sets by American Li 46 64 63
French player Parry defeated Raducanu 64 76(4) Raducanu has never been a good clay player, though in saying that he play on clay has been limited, due to the fact she is injured, prefers to wait for the grass season

I'm still trying to figure out how Emma won a major.
