@El Dude This one actually isn't that difficult. It comes down to focus, desire and greed. These aren't things that can be taught. The previous winners simply wanted it more and would not settle for less. They were willing to do whatever it took to be on top. Case in point, Serena is 44 and still thinks she can hang w/ the current crop of young ins. How many players today can you say that about? None. It's really sad it's taken this long for someone to run Saba down. She had multiple years where she only won a single slam and she was able to sustain that ranking regardless.

Serena's delusions aren't anything surprising! Most women have different levels of it; deny it at your peril! Men can't afford to be that way, while most women depend on the acceptance of them being flighty, insecure, w/ an inability to self-reflect! When asked how they rate in anything, it's always inflated; looks, IQ, & confidence! Men will more likely play down their virtues! This is not being insulting to women; just stating my observations of the human conditon for almost 70 yrs.!

Serena's game of ball bashing will not beat the ladies of today. She cannot hit thru any of them with that mindset. If she had a serve and volley game like Martina N had that can make the Yngs uncomfortable she could win a few rounds. We saw at Wimbledon which was by far her best opportunity but all she did was resuscitate a deep fish like Myra Joint who could not win a match at the WTA level until she faced Serena.

As for Saba, Its good for the sport that she is now the huntress because she had really been on top for the past 3 years with everyone including Coco making something similar to cameo appearances at most of the majors. If Elena stays healthy and happy outside the court, we could see something very special during the next calendar slam year. I doubt she can win RG but she will be a major problem against anyone because she hits a heavy deep ball and serves like she is hitting from a tree.

As for Barty, she claimed burnout.

Deep down inside, I truly believe that Barty didn't really love the game of tennis. I say this as a fan of Barty. She already left the game once before (to play cricket), so in hindsight, it should have not really been a huge surprise that she left the game on top.

When she won the 2022 Australian Open, I kind of had a feeling she was almost done, but I was hoping that she would have at least completed the season and try to win the US Open (to complete the career slam), but she truly felt that she accomplished everything and had nothing left to prove.

That doesn't take away from the fact that she is the last real transcendent talent in the women's game.

In a way, this would be like if Federer had left after winning the 2010 Australian Open. At that point, he really had nothing left to prove, as he had broken the Sampras record and won 4 of the previous 6 slams (including finally winning the French Open and the career slam).

To tell ya the truth.. I prefer watching the ladies tour more than the men's tour. I think Saba, Rybakina, the erratic twins Coco and Madison and a few others are sometimes more entertaining. Sinner, Carlos, Meddy, Novak and Arthur Fils are really all I really tune in to watch

Women can dish it out, but can't take it! It's their major failing; "never taking accountability!" Even at my age & speaking to a female cousin I helped raise, we can't talk about serious issues! You're not allowed to even point out facts! Women are above criticism & will defend each other; even strangers over men! They're allowed to scream & hit men w/ impunity, while "looker-ons" commiserate w/ a women being thought a victim! It's one of the reasons I've shut down, won't watch news, or care WTF's going on in the world! The sheer stupidity's alienated me too much!

I'm in that camp too at the moment. Seems to be cyclical.
