3-Setters
Sinner 47-0
Alcaraz 28-1

4-Setters
Sinner 13-1
Alcaraz 16-3

5-Setters
Sinner 2-5
Alcaraz 6-0

And there's the real difference. Jannik's better in 3 and 4-setters, but Carlos much better in 5-setters. Here's a scary thought: Jannik is 60-1 in Slam matches that don't reach five-sets. Meaning, he's been virtually unbeatable (98.4%), but rather poor in five-setters.

Tennis as a gentlemen's sport couldn't look worse back in my day when on occasion, a player who cramped up like you wouldn't believe! No one was allowed to touch the player unless they wanted to concede! It was once shown in gruesome action in a match w/ Connors & Orantes! Players like Manuel were subseptible to cramping IMO due to being sorta muscle bound! I used to cramp up in the legs overnite all the time! I mainly didn't get enuf water in me! There were too many instances of the Connors/Orantes event occurring; hence the rule change yrs. ago! :angry-face::astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face:
Borg would not have cramped.

No offense to Borg, but he played in a very different context, one that was less intense in terms of wear on the body.

It is a bit like baseball. Fastball velocities have skyrocketed, especially over the last couple decades. 20 years ago a 95 mph fastball was considered well above average; now it is, well, average - and lots of guys regularly throw 100+ mph, a few even 105 mph. I think Nolan Ryan could throw that hard back in the 70s, but he was a freak of nature.

Players cramped plenty in Borg’s day IIRC. Having said that, How dare you offer plausible possible reasons for Borg’s exceptional stamina?

You are officially a Borg Hater.

This is what Borg basically looks like, relative to Sincaraz:

OTOH, , can you imagine Borg today with modern conditioning & fitness, nutritionist, AND modern rackets ? He would be Rafa Nadal version 2.0 and have won 30 + majors….

I've been saying this for over a year now, but Sinner's nut huggers (Margaret) will label you as a Sinner hater if you point out that Sinner has a weakness in 5-set matches. I'm sorry, but those are just the facts. Sinner doesn't do well in 5-set matches. If you go back to 2022 Wimbledon, Sinner's record in 5-set matches becomes 2-10.

The crazy thing is that if Sinner has even an average record in 5-set matches, let's say 6-6, he'd probably be closing in on 10 slams by now.

True. It is a serious problem for him. I'd even go so far to say that it is the main thing that may prevent him from being an inner circle great. His dominance over the last 2 1/2 years is comparable to the peak runs of GOAT candidates, but the five-setter has been his Kryptonite.

What is strange is that he was better in five-setters earlier in his career. From his first in 2020, here are his results in five-setters:

L, L, W, W, L, W, W, L, W, L, L, L, W, L, L, L, L, L, W

As you can see, he had a really bad 1-8 run, from R16 of the 2023 AO through R64 of 2026 RG. Before that he was 5-4, and he's 1-0 since. The strange part is most of that bad run was during his peak span of 2024-present.

Anyone know the last time when the two best players in the world missed the same Slam? I know Alcaraz isn't #2, but he's obviously top 2 in ability.

Long-term, I'd probably be more concerned with Alcaraz's wrist than Jannik's knee, but both are concerning. There is a non-zero chance that we've already seen their best years. And no, I'm not saying that this is likely but that it is at least somewhat possible ("non-zero").

That said, Jannik not needing surgery is likely a good sign. Likely.

It’s not being a hater to point out the obvious, Sinner sucks in 5 set matches.

If he can’t handle 5 set matches now, at age 25 , I doubt it will improve all that much in the future, IMO

I'm just sitting here SMH, just incredulous the double standard & hypocrisy going on! So many out there are trying to push Novak out of the game b/c he can't handle tough 5 set matches as the current Gen. is having issues as well! Djokovic's idea to change scoring is being floated like a lead balloon, some openly saying "he's doing this for himself!" He's about to exit, so that is just about insane thinking; even by oldsters like Clijster mouthing off! We all know the game is more about physicality over the mental strain of the tour! I've been saying that utilizing mindless aggression isn't going to help elther the men or women's tours as both have routine WD's of top players, then retirements during matches! And people still point at Novak for taking advantage of the system! Who's calling for MTO's now? KIDS almost half his age! What a bunch of fk'n idiots out there! Save my sanity Pls! :astonished-face::angry-face::yawningface::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

If yall think Nick is gonna get a 4 month slap on the wrist ... I doubt it . I think they are gonna throw the book at him..
Maybe he should have used the Andre Agassi tactic when he tested positive for crystal meth, convinced the ATP officials someone spiked his soda can and they let him off Scott free….

Yeah that was disgraceful. Had the officials done their job, Agassi would never have come back. He literally was living a lie for the rest of his career..
