He loves the sport, I'm sure. And he loves the competition, too, I'm also sure of that. It's a driving factor for top athletes. However, he's used to winning a lot. His love for the competition and the sport may wane when he's winning a lot less. But if he keeps getting to SFs and Fs, that may be enough to keep the belief, and the love of the game.
This is becoming a big Yawn and relentless to me Period,
Fact is that becuase Novak is not in the mix at 38 yo is that players like Aclaraz and Sinner and others have worked out how to beat him
I mean he comes on social media the other day carrying on that he knows he isnt like as much as Federer and Nadal? he is still carrying on with that Crap
Novak has only himself to blame, he has always been 'needy' even today in 2025.
Good for him if he wants to play the Olympics but honestly I cannot see that happening, he already has got a Gold Medal what is the point?
I didnt realize he had so many people at TF on his payroll :)

if it's boring to you, you can skip this part. Some of us are still interested in how much longer he will play, and why. We are not on the payroll. We are just willing to keep gaming it.

While it is tempting to be (irrationally) disappointed that Fonseca hasn't taken a next step up yet, it is important to remember that he is really in his first go-around on tour. What is impressive is that he's not getting blown out in any losses, except maybe to Jack Draper at Roland Garros. But Draper has ranked as high as #4 and in his prime. This is who Fonseca is now, at 18, imagine what he's going to be a year from now, two, three. In other words, once he does it all once, he can apply what he's learned, feel more comfortable, and take that next step forward.

He reminds me a bit of a top baseball hitting prospect in his first few months. He wows people with his ability, and beats many established pitchers, but then gets wake-up calls when he faces really good pitchers. But like that hitter, Fonseca is learning and he seems OK with that. I imagine that once he plays another few dozen matches (plus or minus), he's going to click and jump a level. While it could happen earlier, my prediction is that he has his "elite breakout"--which I define as either winning a Masters or reaching maybe a Slam SF--in the first half of next year.
Careful now, I’m getting “FAA is the next Slam champion” Deja vu flashback vibes from all this Fonseca talk…. ; )

But if someone claims it’s boring and they could care less about a subject but continues to bitch about it and discuss it here themselves…. ; )

You said we all were, but I know you were joking. As was I. I'm no fan of Novak, as you well know. I'm just curious as to how long he will hang in there. I'm interested to discuss it.

It could come to nothing, or not enough, but I agree with El Dude, (and others) that Fonseca is probably the real deal. It's not just his tennis. Fonseca also has the "it" factor that makes people want to watch him. FAA just plays pretty tennis. Fonseca is already someone everyone wants to watch. And he's got the right ambition. Killer instinct. He fell on his ass a few times today. He'll get better on grass, I suspect.

You understand Grass is for Cows No? :)
Fonseca is the 'real deal' just wait till he puts his game together, his technique is just wonderful, he has been taught correctly from a young age, the amount of power on his fhand is just 'bullet like" also he has a well rounded game.and he has a good head on his shoulders.apart from the "It' factor

I was joking, going out on a limb as a fan doesn’t always pay off but it’s what we do. As a fan of little Holger I should know…; )

However in hindsight it’s easy to say FAA now “just plays pretty”, there was quite a lot of praise and upward mobility predictions for the Canadian at the time.

Hard to gauge, I thought Sinner lacked the killer instinct after a couple of neutral years before he cranked it up last year.

Finally I got some information why Seb Korda has withdrawn from Wimbledon this year
Seb suffered a stress fracture to his shin during the clay season, he said it has been a tough 12 months but better days ahead.

Oh, I do remember the praise and expectations of him. All over tennis, not just here. Tony Nadal took him on as his next protege. But what I mean is that Fonseca has star power, and fire in the belly, which I don't think FAA ever really had. He had a game that looked like it would take him farther than it has, so that's what I mean by he "plays pretty."

BTW, I'm still holding out hopes for your little Holger. He's got game and fire. He's just hasn't quite harnessed it all yet.

Wow, heart of the grass court season leading into Wimbledon? NOTHING! Caught end of Michelsen's defeat of Tsitsipas! He goes from almost eliminated in the 1st Rd. to upsetting one of the Lost Gen II boys in Germany! Med's his next match! A very nice effort; grass court excellence! Menšík goes from Masters' winner to losing to old man RBA! Draper barely survived a 3rd set TB over Popyrin! This is how it's going to be from now on; total inconsistency amongst this new crop of players! There's a combo of issues making it difficult to just rise in the ranks w/o falling back prematurely! The speed & physical toll added to the extreme competition, looks as if most will only have 3 or 4 seasons of great results while the rest of their time is "filler!" The $$ will continue to flow like so it's worth it I guess! :fearful-face::yawningface::astonished-face::angry-face:

Ha. Well, one signifiicant difference is that I don't remember actual pro players raving about FAA like they are Fonseca (and please never confuse my thoughts with pro analysis! ;). FAA was just the youngest guy in the top 100 then 50 for a bit, but so was Borna Coric.

It's the record for first run at #1.
I didn't see the graphic, but it isn't. Jimmy Connors first became ATP #1 on July 29 of 1974 and was #1 for 160 straight weeks. Lleyton Hewitt first became #1 on Nov 19 2001 and was #1 for straight 75 weeks. Of of course Roger, with his 237 weeks. So his run is 4th longest for a first-timer.

Jack Draper who needs to make the SFs at Queens if he is to secure a No 4 seeding at Wimbledon this year, was pushed by Aussie Popyrin in 3 sets, Popyrin was leading 4-2 in the 3rd set TB 36 62 76(5)
Since Popyrin has had a change of coaches his game has improved, Wayne Ferreira is his new coach

Oh, that's right. When I heard them say he'd past Djokovic, I thought they were telling me it was a record, but then I heard the rest. I was confused, and then forgot the rest of the story.

Its not your fault - it is sort of a dumb stat, to be honest, that doesn't really mean anything. I mean, weeks at number one streaks do, but not first streak because it is really pretty circumstantial.
