The faux outrage over this is laughable. Quite frankly, so are those implying any kind of racism.

Anyway, on subject - I would like Murray to win but if I was a betting man I'd go with Djokovic in 3 or 4.

Welcome to the forum Seero.

Me , I am not outraged, but I would be if I was her parents;)

As far as racism, I do not think there is a Czech race, so maybe it is not racist. However, when you bring a person's ethnicity and country into the mix, you are going beyond the individual and insulting a whole group of people. No need for that. Keep it personal. I am sure she would be outraged if someone called Murray "You Scottish F&*%", no?

Thanks!

I for one would not be insulted if someone called me a "flash Scottish *%k", in these parts it's a compliment :p. Far too many precious people about nowadays though.

Anyway, she's doing it wrong, the correct term is 'flash b$%&*@d'

Wait, people are offended by what Kim Sears uttered under her breath? Good grief, are we that naive? Do you think Djokovic's parents have never done that watching Nadal clench his fist, pump his chest, or pull his panties out of his ass? Do you think Nadal's father never did that watching Djokovic beat his son 80 times in a row? If Mirka insulted Stan of all people, you think her thoughts on Nadal were complimentary?

It's like we want people to be emotionless robots. It was a heat of the moment kind of thing and the camera just caught her.

Also, racist? In the words of Kim Sears (probably), give me a f******* break, you ****!

Aye, that was the big news. More so than Murray reaching the final.

There's another clip of her doing the rounds. They put a split screen of her and Berdych's missus on the stadium screen. Her potty mouth reared it's ugly head again.

^Agreed, there is an unhealthy obsession with labelling things as racism. Soon it will be classed as racist to make a comment about somebody living in a different street.

If you're gonna sit in the players box courtside, you need to be able to show some class. Djokovic's parents had trouble with that, Nadal's uncle keeps getting accused to blatant coaching, Mirka apparently lacks class and now Kim rears her ugly side. Why don't we just put all the entourages in some room somewhere and lock the door until the match is over? :snicker

I think the cameras are picking it up more, that's all. Players boxes have always been the same...

If you're barracking players loudly or coaching then I agree with you... but in Sears case, it was more like she mumbled something that the person in the seat behind wasn't even likely to hear.

Have to agree with that. What Mirka did was Djokovic-parent level (when he was a rookie) nonsense. Uncle Toni's coaching is one of the most under-discussed and disgusting things in men's tennis. Kim Sears did nothing like any of that. People should just move on. Embarrassing letting the media lead sensible people by the nose. No story there, move on..

The reason for that is because everybody does it. I remember in 2009 I was in Dubai watching the tournament, and David Ferrer's then coach invited me to sit right behind him as I was speaking to him in Spanish and for some reason that blew his mind. To say that coaching was going on would be an understatement (such as where to direct the ball, hit through the forehand, etc...). I guess you can claim it's a Spanish tradition, and they're the only ones who do it. I think it would be extremely naive to think coaches just sit there quietly all match and the only reason players look at them is for encouragement. Please.

No argument there. I say allow coaching or sequester the player's entourage under threat of being tasered until the match is over. :snicker

Uncle Toni's on court coaching is the most overrated thing imaginable. Overstated too, said so many times that people have declared it to be a disgusting constant. It's become a sterile cliche to attack this, it's no biggie...

"People" is too general. Like everything, it is often fans of opposing players nit-picking and grasping at straws. Everybody is guilty of this in fairness, including Nadal fans.

But I agree, "disgusting" is an absolutely laughable way to put it.

^^^ It's baby talk. Rafa doesn't need anyone scratching their nose to remember how to win against Federer... :popcorn

The obligatory response to this would be: "so why does it still happen?"

It's because he can get away with it. The same way every other player gets away with it. And yes, sometimes, I'm sure they can receive good advice, other times it's just a mental thing.

The idea that Toni Nadal is the only one doing this is hilarious. I doubt Novak looks to his box just to check if Boris has gotten fatter since the last changeover. Almost everyone is guilty of this.

Sky Sports in the UK have missed a trick so far, they need a dedicated players box cam for their coverage. Who needs the tennis when you can watch pretty ladies mouth off :popcorn

It's a habit, and Rafa has said that in the heat of battle he's mostly unaware of it, and when he is, it's more confusing than anything. As you say, they all do it. With some, it's called exhortations or encouragement. It doesn't win big titles for anyone. Plus, it's like anything to do with Rafa, it gets exaggerated by people who can't stand him. Eventually this kind of baloney gathers the legs of rumour and becomes dogma...

Voting as of now:

Novak in 3 -- 1
Novak in 4 -- 12
Novak in 5 -- 4

Murray in 3 -- 0
Murray in 4 -- 2
Murray in 5 -- 3

Only one vote for a straight set win, 14 for 4 sets, and 7 for 5 sets.

Don't forget to vote, if you haven't already. The poll is still open, and won't be closed until just before the match begins.

But going back to the match in hand, am I the only one who thinks the Becker Effect is negligible?

My gut reaction is to agree with you, but I can't remember when they began working together.

I'm not sensing the same kind of sea change Lendl brought to Murray. I'll put it that way.
