So Fiero, if Navone drives this one home, are you going to call for Novak to retire like you did when Roger and Rafa were old and struggling?

Oh, I think he knows it's time! He probably just wanted to have 1 more go at the USO; m/b get to 100 wins! I'm not surprised! Today's players just don't donate points like they used to! He's either served off the court or made to work so hard he's just a beaten old man! :astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Even a washed 38-year-old Rafa in July 2024 dug down and beat Navone. This match proves that Novak isn't the GOAT.

Roger is the GOAT because his floor is so high, and you can rely on him not to lose to this type of opponent. I could never see Roger, even on his worst day, being in any position where is he close to losing to a player like Navone. (Worst version of Roger was the one that lost 6-0 to Hurkacz, but he was still a very good player, and that Roger still made it to a quarterfinal at Wimbledon.)

Navone defeats Djokovic in 5. Didn't see the match. What happened? Was he rusty from playing very little tennis or has age caught up with him? Scorewise, could explain why he only won three games after leading two sets to one.

Like him or loathe him, it's a bad loss for the championship, already reeling with Jannick Sinner not there.

It's the usual; Djokovic can only make it thru these early rounds if his opponent is accomodating w/ occasional UFE's & getting nervous in the crunch! These new kids not only have no fear, they're truly fearless & are surprisingly tough in the crunch! IMO, Novak's playing as well as ever! If he can get it done in 3 or 4 he'll be ok! The problem is points & games are lasting longer & longer! He's being extended into 4 hours matches, so his body will betray him! Something was wrong w/ Novak by the 3rd set, but he got thru it; :face-vomiting: behind the scoreboard! After Navone stole the 4th set, Novak was toast! Even if he had gotten back into it, the next round w/b just as problematic! It was the same issue as Wimbledon when FAA extended him to the limit! Sinner had no trouble w/ the old guy even w/ extra rest! He won't last til 2028 OG! He can forget it unless he just coasts along, hanging around barely in the top 30! :angry-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Novak's stamina dropped a lot and it seems he can't go the distance anymore. It wasn't even hot last night. Still surprised by this loss. That is tennis, where no one can cover for you like in team sports. The end is looking near.

Well I heard about the result and didn't want to go throug the emotional labor of watching the game as it would be too much on my nerves and body. It's really hard to watch my man my GOD going down like that and perhaps a lot of people in the stadium were taking sadistic pleasure out of it so I didn't watch the video.

I guess the planets are not in his favor anymore. He understands it too. That's why he was in tears. He just wants to go on for the love of tennis for his career and everything. Anyone wants to prolong his career as long as he wants. It's nature. You develop an attachment to these things. May God give him strength and courage for the road ahead. But it's entirely up to him. If he wants to give it up. I am with HIM. If he wants to go on I am the last person in the stadium cheering for him. May God give him courage to decide well.

I remember Roger retiring in 2021 which was an extremely emotional moment both for him and Rafa. Agassi cried in the last return game he faced against some guy Benjamin Becker in 2006. It happens. It's totally natural.

Btw I watched Roger's game against Roddick. Roger still has that second serve going on. And that backhand. Roddick looked great too for a guy who's been retired much longer. But then Roddick has more of that body mass and girth so it obviously makes him look convincing. But, Roger was great in clutch moments as usual.

The stroke production & computer brain's still working w/ the only incuberance the age & entropy of Federer! The game's too fast for the Big 3! :)
