Shapo needs to retire.. he had a cup of coffee against a jaded Nadal I think it was in Canada over 8 years ago and havent done anything since. I dont know how he is still in the top 100. Ben looks tired.. He collected his appearance fee and now he can go watch tape of Sinners matches. I doubt very seriously that Carlos is playing the US Open.

Quite a few players have made a name for themselves w/ just 1 win over Nadal! OTOH Kyrgios, Brown, & Rosol alone at Wimble.! It happens!

Same thing is true for Djoke: Istomin, Chung, Querrey, Cecchinato. Shall I go on?

Feel free! Djokovic's upsets "down under" didn't stop him from winning a ton! I'll take his bad results at AO taking 10 over Nadal's failing record at Wimbledon w/ just 2 gifted titles! Knock yourself out! The masses are swarming after Djokovic's loss yesterday! He's still ranked #5 in the world! They're acting as if he's dropped out of the top 100, barely hanging on like Monfils! I think he's going to finally cash in his chips after the USO! It was a pipe-dream to play in '28 OG's! :astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Rafa wouldn't want that looked at as his numbers are comparable more than likely, but still fall short of Novak's as he's made so many SF's & Finals of All Big Title taking an astonshingly high #; over 100 titles, w/ 24 Majors, 40 Masters, & 7 YEC's alone! His 72 BT's w/ OGM dwarfs all others by double digits! Of course you're the real #'s guy! I just go off my old, addled brain of memories hoping I'm right @this stage of life! :astonished-face::face-with-tears-of-joy::yawningface::fearful-face:

I’m a bit irritated the media is playing up the Jodar “gamemanship” on his comeback win over Shapo. Shapo had a 5-1 lead in the decider & reached MP? He did what Shapo does best, implode & not mentally hold it together. You need to close the deal. Broken shoelaces or not you still control your side of the court including your serve.

19 year old Jodar is on the brink of joining the top ten already this year, impressive.

This right here. As @Murat B. kept saying during the French Open, the great ones ALWAYS find a way to get that final game to close it out.

Nadal, Djokovic, Federer, and Alcaraz would never blow a match with this type of lead.

Wow! Been watching Cobolli/Blockx w/o the sound! What a psycho match! Cobolli's serving for it, but gets broken at 5-4 on some horrendous shotmaking, blowing brk. pt. on a "sitter" at the net! Blokx gets to serve for it as well & blows up the same way, up 40-15! Now Cobolli's serving for it again! DONE in 3! :astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face::wedding:

I haven't heard any media talking about it, but then I don't watch alot of news nor do I spend much time on social media. What specifically are they calling gamesmanship?

“The match will be remembered for a remarkable battle, but also for controversies, with Jodar calling for a doctor and breaking shoelace two times in the final set, which made Shapovalov frustrated.”
What are his shoelaces made of ? Licorice? LOL

I'm really hoping to see Fonseca go deep here and at the USO. He looked like he was breaking out at RG, but other than that, 2026 is very similar to 2025 - but without any titles (after his first two last year). Right now he's at #31 in the Race rankings after finishing #24 last year, so at best he's pretty much just consolidated in being a lower-end seeded guy (top 20-30ish).

Top 10 and a Masters would have been a good result for him this year. Top 20 and a few deep runs at big events and maybe another 250/500 title would be adequate, but a bit disappointing. Outside the top 20 has to be a serious disappointment.
Who woulda thunk at the beginning of the year that the other 19 year old Rafa Jodar would have been the breakout star of this year , surpassing (for now) Fonsenca ?
