Let me say one final thing on Serena receiving a wild card into Wimbledon,
There was wide criticism in the UK of awarding wild card to Serena at Wimbledon ( also other countries) and thus depriving a young player of the opportunity. But any tournament in the world would have made the same decision. It raises the interest in the event and she has earned it in my opinion.

I think we all saw AP when Serena came on the tour, she was going to be a better player than Venus, and I dont mean that as a negative towards Venus at all, I loved watching Vee play and in her prime was just a wonderful grass player and I was soo lucky to be able to watch Vee live and also Serena over the years, Serena said without Venus she would not be the player that she is
The love and admiration of the 2 sisters towards each other has always stood the test of time!
MM .. I think you missed my point. Richard said this a few years before it happen. Venus was up and coming on the tour while Serena was not even playing junior tournaments. That’s the greatness of his tenure as being their father/coach/manager. You don’t see other parents who have multiple children playing the same sport saying that with the exception of Lavar Ball who said that of his 3 boys.

Players and former players, media, tennis fans, and tournament officials can feel however they want to about Serena returning to tennis, but Serena generates interest in the sport which in turn can lead to investment in the sport.

We have amazing tennis talent. On the women's side, anyone could be a tournament winner on any given day. I don't know that players translate beyond the courts to generate interest for investment purposes. Serena does that. If I were the WTA, I would ride with it as long as Serena is offering.

Here is updated news from Serena Williams agent Jill Smoller,
Serena 'tweaked her right knee at the end of the first set against Maya Joint.
"She left that site unaided and is doing everything she can to be ready for her doubles match later this week" Smoller said.
Serena and Venus are due to play doubles this Friday

So that is the very reason that Serena did not do her media conference after the match which is plausible and was excused from her media obligations from the Wimbledon and WTA medical teams

It's inevitable you will tweak something when you haven't played in forever. This happened in 22 against Harmony Tan and she stayed out there trying to win, but ultimately lost in the 3rd set.

her name generates interest even when it's not tennis. How many people after seeing those Ro commercials are willing to try GPT1 because of her.

Noted, but Serena was excused from her media obligations from the Wimbledon and WTA medical teams, because of her right knee problem

Got it. My response wasn't about her presser. Just observing she had a previous tweak on the grass. I hope she's able to play doubs.

No worries, I hope people on social media will read why she was excused from media duties, because the Hate Serena has been getting is disgraceful.

Still hope for Gauff as she breaks Sierra serving for the match at 5-4
5 all in the 3rd set
Sierra will now serve to force a TB 5-6 in the 3rd set
6 all TB for the 3rd set and the match, 10 point TB remember :)
Phew Gauff wins to play another day she defeats Sierra 63 36 76(7)

News just in I will post it in full on the WTA News post,

WTA finals are officially heading to Indian Wells in 2026?

Yay I will finally be able to watch, since I boycotted the finals while they were held in Saudi Arabia

I watched the second half of the Serena match. She was a bit rusty, but looked surprisingly good. Even though she's struggling, Joint is essentially a top 30 talent, and Serena was right there with her. With a bit more match time, I think she could at least be competitive against top 10 players.

That said, I question whether, at 44, she could win the 7 matches in a row required to win a Slam. I'd like to see her play Washington or Memphis, then probably Cincinnati, before the USO. Throw off the rust and build up her game. On one hand, it is hard imagining her beating a Sabalenka or Swiatek, or even Gauff/Rybakina/Andreeva; on the other, none of the top players are unbeatable, and all have some degree of question mark. So now's a good time to do what she's doing.

Andreeva was down a early break in the 1st set against Krejcikova, broke back to win the 1st set 64
This match up will test Mirra, not only game wise, Babs knows how to play on the grass, but she must stay focused all match

Fantastic turn around for CoCo.. the last 7 points of that tbr her tennis IQ was outstanding.. I like how much overall variety is in her game. The Slice, change of pace, drop shots.. body serve is very nice.. That's how you play grass court strategic tennis.. @SERENADAGOAT
