Please Do Not Put John Mac on a womens match, he is out of his depth, I have been saying that for years, he doesnt do his homework before a match Period!

I definitely think had she played a few singles matches beforehand she would have maybe committed fewer double faults, and she would have had a better read on her return.

If she is looking to maybe play the US Open, she should work on developing some strategies to shorten the points, so movement isn't a complete issue. Play a challenger or two to get some rhythm.

I obviously did not watch the match ( battery acid on the eyeball is a time better spent for me ) but I saw the handshake at the end , and that reminded me once again why I am not a Serena fan .

But did you watch the match? Your comment is telling me no .
No, I didn't watch the match. But from a results perspective, Joint was in the Top 30 this year - so stretching her to 3 sets seems OK on paper. I watched your girl Caro play an exo with Blake, Agassi and Bouchard and it looked like she hadn't picked up a racquet for 20 years.

she actually looked very good for someone who hasn't played a singles match in 4 years. the fact that she was competitive and had chances in the 3rd set to extend the lead shows just how great a competitor she is. Needs more matches if she seriously wants to play on the tour.

Hi AF.

I just came back from the gym and read Chris Clary comments that Serena didnt turn up at her press conference after the match?
Hmm trying to find more info, usually a player dosent turn up to a conference, gets fined unless sick or other can offer a plausible reason why they cant attend

This is what I found,
The Tournament sent a quote attributed to her.
Unfortunately Serena Williams will not be able to undertake media this evening.
Please see below quotes from her,

"It was really great to be back at Wimbledon. I never expected to be here. The atmosphere was amazing. Walking out was amazing. I definitely relished it and missed it and enjoyed the moment more than anything".

After reading some of the press where folks were questioning AELTC giving her the WC and other people saying she should stay in retirement, I can't imagine there would be anything positive happening at the presser. Maybe she took the loss more than any of us thought.

Oh, it was a quick kiss/off to Joint! They barely touched paws/ smiled at the net! Serena wasn't happy! Doesn't she know this girl idolizes her? :astonished-face:

I didn't pay attention to that. She did shake the girl's hand right? What else is she supposed to do? I think she underestimated the girl's ability to play. Maybe thought because she hasn't won matches all year, she would be an easy kill. She still has a target on her back even after 4 years. Folks always bring their best against her and it just irks her to no end.

Remember someone @AntiPusher mentioned how big Serena's ego was last week.. jajaja.. Serena shouldnt be obligated to attend a post match presser... who wants to answer all those dumb questions when its a miracle that she decided to play. I would not be surprised if she smashed a few rackets and etc.. Maya Joint was a "lay up" and Serena knows she blew it.. She isnt embarrassed but furious that she did not execute the right game plan.. Maya was dripping blood starting with the long walk thru the club house. Yet Serena wasnt a shark today. Serena has so much variety with her strokes yet she chose to play that boring bang type of tennis which even lost the interest of her daughter. This played exactly into what the young Aussie needed to see across the net.. the hardest ball to hit in tennis is the slow change of pace ball that forces the opposing player to create their on pace.. This is not the way Serena played. Serena feed hard pace balls which takes all the pressure off the other player. All she did was ride Serena's pace and hit the ball to the open court for an easy winner. This is why Serena is furious. Take this match to the outside court on the public courts, Serena would win the match easily. This was a opportunity blown.. too bad for Serena, her fans and her daughters.

After reading such negative comments regarding her failure to show up at the press conference eg she was given a wild card and didnt have the curtesey to show up.....Good Riddence and they should have given it to someone else younger that deserved it?
My goodness how people turn? they were all shouting from the Roof Tops that Serena Williams was granted the last singles wild card and could not wait to see her play?
At the end of the day we do not know why? and it appears to me that the Tournament officials were statisfied with her explanation and they posted her comments, they would not have done it overwise.
It falls in the category of Tall Poppy Syndrome to me I have witnessed that in the past BTW

I gave the Serena response a few minutes ago. Serena does not owe them a damn thing. If they are negative than they were NEVER for Serena. Be Real be like the poster said hours earlier that he was not a Serena fan.. I can appreciate any who stand ten toes down in their manure. I rock with Serena ever since Richard told us years ago about Venus. Yes, Venus is going to be a great player but I have another who is younger who will be greater... Promised fulfilled.

I think we all saw AP when Serena came on the tour, she was going to be a better player than Venus, and I dont mean that as a negative towards Venus at all, I loved watching Vee play and in her prime was just a wonderful grass player and I was soo lucky to be able to watch Vee live and also Serena over the years, Serena said without Venus she would not be the player that she is
The love and admiration of the 2 sisters towards each other has always stood the test of time!

Your such a hypocrite ? you have never liked the William Sisters, and have tried to demean them at any chance you get?
I remember quite clearly you said that Serena should not be given a wild card? given the factor of her age? and should be given to someone younger? now your giving likes to the posters who have come out in defence of Serena ? LOL!
