The Eastboune Open

The Eastbourne Open is one of the most established and popular events of the British grass-court season. Held during the final week before Wimbledon, the tournament provides players with a crucial opportunity to fine-tune their game on grass before heading to the All England Club.

The event is staged at the historic Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club, a venue that has become synonymous with summer tennis on England’s south coast. Elite-level tennis returned to Devonshire Park as a combined ATP and WTA event in 2017, continuing a tradition that has alternated between Eastbourne and Nottingham over the years.

The grass courts at Devonshire Park are among the most respected outside Wimbledon, offering conditions that closely resemble those players will encounter the following week in London. The surface rewards strong serving, quick movement, and confident attacking play, often producing exciting matches and dramatic finishes.

The tournament has attracted many of the sport’s biggest names over the years, while also developing a reputation for crowning grass-court specialists. In 2025, Taylor Fritz secured a record fourth Eastbourne title, further cementing his reputation as one of the tour’s most accomplished grass-court performers.

Combining a rich history, intimate setting, and prime calendar position, the Eastbourne Open remains one of the most important and beloved events of the grass-court season.

About Eastbourne

Nestled on England’s south coast, Eastbourne is one of Britain’s most attractive seaside towns, renowned for its elegant Victorian architecture, sweeping promenade, and spectacular coastal scenery. Often referred to as the "Sunshine Coast" of England, the town enjoys some of the highest sunshine totals in the United Kingdom.
Eastbourne is perhaps best known for its beautiful seafront and its proximity to the dramatic white chalk cliffs of Beachy Head and the South Downs National Park. The combination of sea views, rolling countryside, and a relaxed atmosphere has made it a popular holiday destination for generations.

The town retains much of its Victorian charm, with grand hotels, historic gardens, and a traditional pier stretching into the English Channel. During the summer months, Eastbourne hosts a variety of cultural and sporting events, with the tennis tournament serving as one of the highlights of the local calendar.

It is sad to see the Eastbourne WTA tournament down graded now to a 250 and a shared ATP tournament it used to be one of most prestige tournaments before Wimbledon
The great Martina Navratilova winning 11 titles at Eastbourne spanning 3 decades

Top Seeds in action for Tuesdays matches are,
Paolini (1) Keys (2) Krejcikova (4) Siegemund (5) Tjen (6)

Jazz I dont know if your foot injury from Roma tournament is still a concern with your current play, losing to Maria in straight sets 64 63, is a match quite frankly you should have won, btw Errani and Jazz also lost their doubles match today
McNally good win over Tjen (6) in 3 sets, 75 67(5) 63
Keys (2) in straight sets over Gibson 64 64
Birrell d Krejcikova (4) 63 76(6)
McNally d Tjen (6) 75 67(5) 63
Beljek d Siegemund (5) 36 76(2) 76(3)

Turning to the ATP
Fonseca has withdrawn? I hope it is nothing serious just before Wimbledon, Hasly LL will replace him, will get a first round bye, and will play against Hussey in his first rd match
Just found out it is a shoulder discomfort that forced Fonseca to withdraw, gee I hope he will be okay for Wimbledon

I know the WTA and ATP are liking these combo tournaments but it feels like the men's tour encroaching on the women's turf (no pun intended) with Eastbourne.

Eastbourne was one of the most prestige womens only tournaments, with great history, Martina Navratilova winning 11 titles spanning 3 decades, quite frankly sad to see it down graded to a WTA250 event, and agree now the men have joined, it has lost its place, other tournaments like WTA500 Berlin and WTA500 Bad Hombourg are attracting the top players now.
