Have you been watching Novak's matches recently? lol!, last year was last year btw, there is no way he will make a deep run at Wimbledon this year on his present form or Roland Garros
Novak has been feast of famine this year. Either he makes a deep run (Australian Open, Miami) or loses in the first round (pretty much every other tournament). I still think that until Novak loses early at Wimbledon, he deserves the benefit of the doubt there. After all, he's made the final the last 6 times it's been played.

Now, do I think Novak will win Wimbledon? Probably not. However, I would not be surprised if he did. After all, he has the best track record of anyone there. If he shows up to Wimbledon with his form at Miami, he's going to be very tough to beat. But that's a big IF.

Please go and watch high lights of Novaks Current Play on Clay this year, I call it Low Lights ! he is in no physical state or mental state to go deep at RG
The youngsters are not afraid of him , you must arrive at RG in top physical and mental state for starters, it is the hardest GS to win!
If you think winning 2 matches on clay so far this year, and now withdrawing from Rome, he is going to run deep at RG your kidding yourself for starters
Novak needs to ask for a WC at either Hamburg or Geneva before playing RG,
Wimbledon is too far away to talk at present

It's hard to imagine that he likes his chances at all at RG, on present form. Maybe he's going to skip that one, too, and focus on grass?

There are rumors about today after he withdrew from Rome, he may also skip RG? as yet there isnt a reason why he withdrew from Rome

Of today's matches, de Minaur d. Shapo was entertaining. Shapo is fun to watch, but he refuses to be disciplined enough.

Musetti practically stole that first set from Tsitsipas. Didn't see the second, but it looked like a good match. BTW, that's Tsitsipas and Zverev out, two who would be in the short list for RG, and they're not improving their chances. (Which I'm not in the least sad about.) Cerundolo's stock goes up, however. He played in the wind like a clay master today.

Any word why Berrettini had to retire out of his match?

No hint of an injury. I saw a practice clip from Madrid before ND played Arnaldi, and Novak was pretty edgy, implying that he's still not finding his clay game. Which was apparent in his match. Rome may look like too much competition? Maybe play either Geneva or Munich before RG, then hope for a good draw and the benefit of best of 5? Nah, my money is on he's done with clay for this year. He loves Rome! This looks like a white flag for the clay season.

I'll wait until Wimbledon to make that determination. Novak has proven that he can still make deep runs at the biggest tournaments, like Wimbledon and the Olympics last year, as well as the Australian Open this year. Now, if he loses early at both the French Open and Wimbledon, then I know it's over.
That is a fair assesment. I just don't have much hope for him going forward. At this rate he'll be lucky to snatch that 100th title somewhere. It's like his fire and passion is gone and maybe the recent injuries during the slams affected him too.

Matteo has a ongoing 'oblique' injury he had to have a MTO in match against Giron the other day, I am not surprised he retired

See I was right about my dark horse Cerundolo, yep playing the wind on clay is a tough ask he handled it well

Babycakes is probably trying to rest up so he can play at home. Next week is big for all the Italian players.

He can ill afford to skip RG. He made QF last year, will it drop him out of the top 10 for Wimby? Some points are better than a goose egg. :egg:
Than how can he afford to skip Rome? How much can he expect out of RG with no prep, given the state of his game? While I can understand that seeding is part of the calculation for Wimbledon, Novak is making decisions at a level that isn't normal for tennis. He clearly sees his window closing, because we all see it. We don't know why he's decided to skip Rome, but putting the puzzle pieces together, it doesn't add up to prioritizing RG.

My best guess is that Novak at this point doesn’t think the FO is attainable, so why bother with the warmup clay Masters if he’s not feeling it.
