I hardly call a close 3rd set with Serena in Australia beating her like a drum. Now if Sloane beat Serena 6-1, 6-1 that is beating her like a drum. I think Keys has the better weapons to have the better career than Sloane, but we will see neither has found the consistency they need to contend yet.

Sloane was the #2 seed this week and she lost in the first round. She needs better results than that .. period!! We'll see how she does against a healthy Serena (where is that pic of her swollen ankle??)!!

Beating an injured Serena does not do much to help her

And with her talk after that match she may find herself

on that same list Sharapova is on in Serena's book. And

then you can talk about drum beating.

Madison is doing well in her first year on tour ... seems more mature and media savvy than Sloane who seems to be self absorbed...

I agree with RJD. A win is a win officially, but in my book, beating someone who is injured does not count. Serena is extra motivated when facing players who have robbed her of a slam. Sloane will find it hard to beat her again, along with Stosur, Makarova, Pova, etc.

Madison Keys to me has gone from strength to strength in a very short space of time, one of her greatest assets I feel that will keep her in good stead in her career is that she keeps her 'nerve' in crucial points in a match. We all saw that at this year's Australian Open, for a 19 year old to play her first s/final against one of the greatest players of all time in Serena Williams,I was impressed.Another added bonus I feel is having Davenport as her coach,to me it is a match made in heaven.I have often thought when I first saw Madison play she reminded me of Davenport.Madison has improved her movement as well.

Personally I feel she will have a better career than Sloane Stephens,Sloane gives up too easily in matches. We all saw how Madison saved all those MPs and made Serena serve out the match, another reason I was impressed with Madison in that match.

I agree. Not only did she save a whole string of match points in her debut GS semifinal -- while playing a potential GOAT, no less -- but she did it playing brave, aggressive tennis. She didn't wait for Serena to make errors; Madison made things happen.

I can't give up on Sloane yet. She is still young and can still improve physically and mentally. Some players mature when they choose to not when the fans or commentators want them to. Remember Jennifer Capriati? She even left the sport did dumb crap and played her way back into the game and hall of fame. If, and I know that it is a big if, Sloane improves her work ethic and matures mentally she can be an awesome player and maybe a slam winner.
