Sloane seriously have some self esteem issues and after reading this article, I have serious doubt that she will be the next great American player.

I guess she's expressing how she feels in no uncertain terms. Not sure it was particularly wise though. Sometimes it's not ideal to wash all your dirty laundry in public. She'd have been better going to see Serena and having it out rather than through national TV.

RE: Sloan blast Serena

Well, I don't think this is a very smart move career-wise. When they play each other again in the future it will probably have a negative effect on Sloane while it will just be extra motivation for Serena. Sloane Stephens doesn't strike me as the type of girl who can feed of negativity and use it to her advantage. Someone like a Capriati or Hingis, perhaps even Henin could do that when there was a little bit of needling going on between them and Serena and use it as extra motivation in a grudge match. But they were better players than Sloane is at this point. At a time when she's struggling with her game the last thing she needs is to provoke Serena Williams and get herself involved with trash talk in the media which will put everything she says or does from now on under the microscope. Far better to keep a low profile and just work on your game, girl. And if Serena doesn't want to be your friend, there are plenty of other girls on the tour. But they might have second thoughts about becoming friends with you as well after reading all this.

Especially afterwards of how she played during FedCup.. I typically dont watch Fedcup but Sloane play was horrific at best. Sloan should have been honor to watch the real pros Serena and Venus step up with their US pride on the line. Who cares if someone didnt give you an autograph signature or call you for chitchat. Sloane seems to be sore at Serena and its too bad that Sloane's mom or the USTA coaches cant penetrate her simple mind to the truth, she isnt that good and if she played against the Williams, henin, Klisters, Jenny C or Hingis. she would be taken to the woodshed on a daily basis. Sloane is writing checks with her mouth that she doesnt have the game to cash. Not very smart at all. I think she is gonna get her clocked clean by an injury free Serena every future encounter very similar to Sharapova.

A wise man once said if I am going into battle with a bear, you should worry about the bear's welfare. In Sloane's case, if the bear is Serena, the wise man would run away as fast as possible.

Sloane is bratty and soon Madison Keys will be the darling of the media and will surpass her in accomplishments. She is coming off as an obssessed groupie ..if I were Serena I will increase my security detail. If Kim is her idol why not go to Clijsters and ask for some mentoring, soon she will be like Capriati who was driven crazy by Serena...
The damage has been done and she will stew in the media like Wozniacki did after that Brazil act...they share the same agent..

Hi Tossip, a cool name.. Madison Keys is definitely the future of american tennis. I think she has more weapons than most of the players in the top 10.

Madison comes off as a well brought up girl, she is a doll...Sloane clearly shows that she was not brought up well and probably has low self esteem.Sloane needs to sit down with her grandparents...older folk who know better not her groupie mom....this will not end well for Sloane...her father committed suicide and thats a red flag right there.
Serena needs to increase her security especially in Europe, what Sloane is doing is dangerous...it will only take a crazy person to read that and act on it.

I thought John Stephens died via a car accident

They hardly need Sloane Stephens to make more security for top players necessary. This forum is comparitively friendly and respectful to players - at least it rarely goes really over the top. But on the social media and most other tennis forums you can read vile and disturbing comments aimed at players 24/7. I don't doubt that most are coming from harmless losers pretending to be tough guys from the 'hood whenever they sit in front of their PC, but if even just 1% of those posters mean what they say there are countless psycho's out there and players are in constant danger of becoming Monica Seles number two or worse.

Kieran, I would be interested to see how you feel that sloane is correct, can you explain. If it was Mike Jordan, Kobe, Tiger or Brett Farve all of whom has refused to be a mentor, why should Serena. Who gets upset because someone remove or have that person unfollowed via Twitter.. Even my highschool age daughter would whine like this

If she keeps her own best interests in mind it shouldn't even matter if she's right or wrong. The girl can hardly win a match anymore since her great run at the AO because she finds it hard to get used to all the attention she gets and the pressure that comes with that. Now she's adding to that attention and pressure herself with these comments. Of course she's free to say whatever she wants, but I don't think it's very smart.

It's not that (although I'd be curious as to how Serena explains the 'I made you' comment on Twitter). It's the whole Queen of Sheba sense of entitlement of the WS, marching past a kid with a poster and not giving a hoot. I know, I'll catch flak for that, I'll be told the WS are the most philanthropic pair since Bill Gates and Warren Buffet grinningly donated a large country's national debt to charidy.

I'm sure they are philanthropic, but I bet they're nasty too, particularly Serena, and their superior attitude would well cause them to overlook a hopeful with a poster. Sloane might have been more diplomatic and said nothing, but why should she? Okay, it's typical of the childish modern age that somebody gets unfollowed on twitter and it offends them. But it's a deliberate snub and Sloane says it's been like that since Oz. It rings true to me and if she felt she had to say it, I think she's right. I hope she feels better.

As for Serena, she's under no obligation to follow anyone on Twitter and she can immediately unfollow me now, if she likes. But she'd have to find me on Twitter first... ;)

My first thought as well. There are a handful of champions who can take negative energy/emotions, and turn them into a formula for winning. Serena is one of them.

Me, too. None of what Stephens said is surprising. If there is a worse consistently sore loser than Serena, I've never seen her/him. This is a person who has lost to her own sister, and not congratulated her. Enough said ...

Rumour has it you've been unfollowed. As we speak, Serena is deleting your LinkedIn account from her favorites.

Good. She used to write the most steamy stuff on my page. It scared Masha away. Maybe now she'll be back?

Masha is just plain intimidated by you brother. That boat has sailed. Your best chances lie with Justine Henin.

So, I assume, you expect EVERY tennis star to sign EVERY childs poster, book, magazine or whatever, that attempts to get an autograph?

And that fact that Sloane is still harboring resentment 8 years later is far more reflective on her state of mind then the fact Serena AND Venus didn't give their signature.

Also, the missing element of this whole Sloane and Serena thing could possibly go back to Sloane uttering, "those come on's are so disrespectful," not once, but twice. I'm curious how Serena took that complaint.

Given that Serena once grunted long after she actually hit the ball, I'd imagine she found Sloane's complaint about the disrespectful "come on's" to contain a healthy element of truth...
