i hope martina adds some strength to aga's game, and work on her scheduling also. she plays way too much and gets burned out easily in the big tournaments.

Aga surely deserves to win at least one GS. I don't think she can win on her own without a
power coach. She made a good move in hiring Martina.

Just read about that now. It could be good but I feel that Martina might be a bit like Mac, just too much about herself to be a great coach. But who knows? She's certainly somebody with the pedigree Aggie needs...

Radwanska Reveals Martina Naratilova Partnership

I'm very excited about this idea. We've seen an explosion on the men's side of all time greats coaching current/future all time greats. Will it work as well on the women's side?

Perhaps on the men's side the best thing these coaches did for their players was help them think like a GS champion. Can the same be done for a player like Aggie? She's been to a slam final before and granted she had the hardest of all opponents.

Either way I think it's a smart move. I am ALL FOR players using whatever is at their disposal to make a breakthrough or a return to form. I love the idea of a player shaking up their team or their game when things aren't going well. I hope they both give this partnership time and patience. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Thoughts?

RE: Radwanska Reveals Martina Naratilova Partnership

It will be interesting to see what Martina brings to the game of Radwanksa.Radwanska's serve to me,has always been her weak link in her game. Her 2nd serve is weak and very attackable.I also feel Radwanska over plays tournaments, which often leads her to be carrying niggling injuries all year.Radwanska is of slight build, she has to play well above herself against the bigger and more powerful women players on the tour.I also felt in 2014,Radwanska mental approach to the game faltered.

I wait with great anticipation to see this new partnership.

This is important news, which deserves its own thread, so I merged posts from a few threads to create this one.

Hmmm, where have I heard all this before? Oh, I know Hingis; AGAIN! They truly are a lot alike, but obviously Martina's mentally stronger and her timing was impeccable; making her move pretty much after Graf, Seles, and Sanchez-V. were done! She preceded the Wm sisters, Davenporte, and other big hitters before they overtook her physically! :dodgy:

Aga needs to cut back on her schedule thats all...she plays a lot before slams.Navratilova is too opinionated to be a coach....Aga needs to set boundaries beforehand otherwise this will not last.
I would like to see a match between Serena and Aga and Martina comes down to give Aga a pep talk...and Aga loses the match....hahaha

I agree.
This is stunning to read. I never envisioned Martina as a coach. I was warming up to her as a Tennis commentator but now this is totally a different direction.

Here is the WTA article:
http://www.wtatennis.com/news/article/4354421/title/radwanskas-new-coach-navratilova

This is Navratilova's first major coaching role and she will join forces with Tomasz Wiktorowski to become part of Radwanska's coaching team. They will begin working together after Christmas.

"I did not sleep very well last night, thinking about getting back into match mode and the competitions," Navratilova said of the new partnership with Radwanska. "I am really excited about this opportunity to join Agnieszka's team and work with Tomasz and it is going to be a fun challenge. I was delighted when Agnieszka asked me if I would collaborate with Tomasz and I can't wait to get started."

Aga recently posted a picture of her and Martina during a practice session. While I admire both Martina and Aga, I am not enthusiastic about their pairing. Aga already has mental toughness and a great feel for the net. Other than fitness, I am not sure what Martina can add. Aga has to be careful to not fall into the Jelena trap of building muscles for power then losing speed and fineness.

Well we'll get a look at the collaboration at Hopman Cup soon! :dodgy: :ras:

I am a fan of Aga and support whatever will help her win a major. However, am I the only one who thinks she does not need a coach? She is playing near her max already. The only thing she lacks is power, and unless Martina can give her height and weight, I doubt there is much that can be done. I was actually hoping Martina would coach Petra on whom she can have a big impact. Perhaps Aga hired Martina as a preemptive strike so Martina does not coach Petra.

That didn't last long ...

Mary Carillo just read a statement on the Tennis Channel issued by Martina in which she stated she's ending her partnership with Aga.

Well I guess Aga has to have a scapegoat for the way she's playing! I'm sure she'll turn it all around after Martina's history to her! :nono  :-/ :cover

I think it's more that Martina wants to distance herself from someone who isn't going to produce great results, which would affect Martina's reputation.

You think it's on Martina then? Ok! Wasn't sure, but it didn't look like it was working! Oh well; onto another player that can use her experience!

Yes, that's my impression, especially since the change was initiated by Martina, not Aga.
