I got to say it but maybe it was Jess's time of the month today.. I did not see the match but she definitely had to be under the weather
Jess just unraveled in the 3rd set, ran out of idea's and was frustrated, all credit to Eala after she won the 2nd set she had all the momentum and kept up her aggressive baseline play her 1st serve was rock solid and deserved her first WTA title win.

nah,, MM it would take a monster like Saba or Rybakina or even Miss moody Ostapenko to blow her off the court like today.. That being said congrats to Eala.. she handled her business today

Quite frankly I havent seen Jess play like she did in the 3rd set, she was just clueless and became a UFE machine, 18 UFE for Jess in that 3rd set? anyway Eala deserved her win.

Lets see how both players go in Toronto

AP,
If you are still around,

I have mentioned this before, regarding Eala's game, she needs 'more juice' on her first serve, her 2nd serve is poor, she was lucky today in the final her 1st serve 'stood up' before Jess went AWOL she was making in roads on Eala's 2nd serve.
Eala isnt the shortest player on the tour at 5ft 9 inches, still she needs to improve her serve going forward in her career, maybe hire a serve coach,/ biomechanical coach, which would really benefit her game

I've seen it. This is the old Jess who plays down to the level of competition. She knows what to do, but doesn't and retreats back to ball bashing, gets negative and becomes an UE machine. When they suspended the match on Sunday I knew she would lose. She doesn't do well when the match resumes after a rain delay. Something about her focus or intensity, she doesn't come back the same. Numerous coaches haven't helped her figure it out yet. Not a good look for the top seed to eat a bakery product in the final set.

Excellent post.. I think the one thing you mentioned years ago with Elina Svitolina, Jess has zero weapons. I am not talking about FH or a big serve but speed and quickness,.. Coco's biggest weapon is that she is so quick and fast she is always in a point unless its an ace. Yet we have seen numerous of GS champions win titles with skillsets similar to Jess. Its a shame because she is a good person and a class act to my knowledge

She is a class act, but that may in fact be her downfall. Not mean enough or not enough killer instinct to overcome those dark periods when she goes negative. I always go back to Pova when I see a player w/ more talent who can't win slams. Pova believed she was better than her opponent. She came on court w/ that one dimensional game and you couldn't tell her otherwise she wasn't taking that trophy home.

Keli ..You should post more often.. You are so spot on.. especially about Pova..Her will was far greater than her talent. Thank God Serena realize this very early in their matchups..

She doesn't have alot of weapons but she also doesn't have alot of weaknesses. Her major issue is mental and belief. She has a lot of variety and plays similar to Eala, but has a better serve. If she could put it altogether and gets a favorable draw at a slam, she could have a Maddy moment. We'll see. Belief is the largest obstacle. She's got to know that she belongs amongst the top players, not hope they'll have a bad day and won't smoke her.

Maybe a Sophia Kenin moment but not a Maddy moment.. Jess doesnt have the firepower to take out a murderous row of big babe ballers like Keys 2025 AO title run IMO
