how good is nole (the great Serbian slayer)?

how will history remember him? what is the most likely total slam haul for him when all is said and done?

can he find himself in a position to go after roger`s record of 17 slams?

is that a remote possibility from your vantage point?

by the way its good be a part of your tennis community.

congrats to general britbox for doing a superb job here.

post away and have a blast.

Welcome samson, nice to see you:D

I agree about general BB, great job!!

Nole is not too bad either. I hope he can win a few more slams, 17 would be hard to reach though, that ship might have sailed with Nole losing himself from his first slam to the end of 2010, but he's still done a marvelous job.:)

thanks billie. good to be around mate.

let me know if you want me to make you a cool nole sig. its free of course and I can make it in seconds.

as for nole and his slams, I guess it all depends on how many he gets this year and the next.

these 2 years will determine if he can find himself in a position to go for more.

he needs at least 2 this year and he needs at least 3 in 2014.

anything less and the 17 slam proposition becomes extremely difficult.

It's fun to have you back, Clay Death. As to the Serbian Slayer, it is certainly his "moment," (and by that I mean most of the last 2 years.) He is The Player to be Beaten. #1. Can he get to 17 Slams or pass it? Well, that's 11 or more, and he'll turn 26 in a couple of weeks. He'll have to win 3 or more every year until he's 29 or 30, or keep winning into his early/mid 30s. That doesn't seem plausible. However, he's the best of the pack right now, and he plays in an era of all-time greats, so it's already some kind of legacy. The rest has yet to be written.

thanks billie. I have made 3 versions of your sig for you. I just posted them at the other thread.

use the version you like the most.

lets add some color, emotion, character, and emotion to this forum.

and by the way you have my personal invitation to join tennis4you. we have a castle at the chat thread there.

there is nobody there at the moment but I will be glad to introduce everyone here to the small family we have there.

general brit box and general huntingyou post there once in a while.

my position is that we can all help each other. there is no reason why we cant help you grow here and become a slightly bigger tennis community.

we feel you folks can give us a bit of a helping hand as well.

together we can help both places gain more popularity and become better known in and around the tennis forums world.

its not about competition at all. it is about helping each other grow and also to have more fun.

in life we can never have enough friends. the more the merrier and more interesting the life becomes.

and we all can learn something from each other.

Welcome Clay Death here on the board. have fun.
Join with you in congratulating BB for such a great job.

Djokovic is the best player now and he sure has the potential of adding many more slams. I do agree with what Billie said on this. Next two years will tell us about where he is going. (17?)

He's been the best player in the world for two consecutive years now. That's really saying something when you think about it.

Competition will have a say........my prediction on the low side is 9; on the high side is 13. I will settle with 11 if I have to pick a number.

I don't see him winning slams after age 29 and he is due for some kind of injury setback at some point. His style is very demanding on his body unlike Fed of course.

If he win RG this year (excellent chance IMHO).......then the 13 number will look like a possibility because that would be mean that he took care of his main threat on natural surfaces (it will spill to grass). He already enjoys advantage over Murray for the hardcourts.

History will remember him like an All Time great, the player who dethroned Rafa and at some level Federer as well. That's money right there.

Ladies and Gent,as long as Rafa and Djoker stay healthy
over the next 4 years, it will always be a Rafa\Djoker final. Their games may maybe different but these baseliners consistently produce the same results, the Finals. It will always be the same two on Sunday afternoons and the results will depend on who is playing the best that given Sunday(4 more weeks for Rafa to be at top form, Djoker is the current number 1 player, undisputed)

Djoker 11-13 total Grand Slams titles

I would love to see him challenge Fed's record, but I don't think it's especially likely for all the reasons already mentioned (potential injury, movement will decline... don't forget that a young talent could come out of nowhere). I think the far trickier question to answer is if he will have more slams than Rafa when they both have retired.

I also think we should wait until the end of this year before entertaining this question. I've noticed that optimistic questions like these ("will he win the CYGS?") pop up after Novak just scored a great win, like he just did at Monte Carlo. Remember that he won "only" one slam last year, and if he is going to even approach 17, he can't have more years like that in his prime. Rafa could still win RG this year, there's no reason why Murray can't take Wimbledon, etc...

Hi, Alex, and welcome to the forum! Sensible post. We should wait until the end of this Slam year, perhaps, before we speculate...but we love so to speculate! And, when dominating players like Novak, Roger or Rafa win the AO, the CYGS always going to come up. The one that wins Australia is the only one with a chance at it, and each of those 3 has had 1 or more years when they one 3. It's hard not to live in hope. :)

I think you're right that a pending question is who finishes their career with more Major titles between Nadal and Djokovic. It's not impossible, but unlikely, IMO, that either will catch/pass Roger. So they'll be vying for 2nd-highest Slam count of this era, most likely. The advantage is to Nadal, but we have yet to see how complete is the come-back, and if Djokovic has better results in any of the next 3 Slams coming. And as you rightly point out, Murray is always around to "spoil," or God forbid, Roger. (To the Fedfans: I say that only because, if he adds on more, he's untouchable.)

Alex, welcome to this board.
Excellent post, well said.
I said before that this year and the next will answer many questions being put for Djokovic. He does have all the tools to win many slams but will he get to the #17?
Never say no,but very unlikely. He is close to 26 and he can have perhaps two more prime years during which, his health(injury), slight decline may play some part. Also Nadal, Murray , perhaps Federer will have more to say these two /three years and will not make his path easy in slams. There are also some spoilers like Delpo, Roanic or some one new. I think Djokovic, Nadal and Murray (Roger atleast one IMO) will share slams in 2013 and 2014.

Huntingyou also has put nice post above on this topic.

Thanks for the welcome! I "know" Billie and Mastoor, and Billie invited me here. So, thank you to her for inviting me to the party.

I agree that it's fun to speculate, Moxie. Perhaps I should have said that I think we'll have a better idea after the end of this year. I think he pretty much has to win three slams this year for this question to even be discussed post-2013. My gut instinct is that I expect Nole to win two in 2013, wouldn't be surprised if he wins three, and would be shocked (and elated) if he completes the CYGS.

This made me curious as to when someone last won the AO and RG, consecutively. Jim Courier, in 1992.

It's interesting that even with the amount of talent currently playing (by which I mean the Big 3), no one has accomplished this. Yet ...

Even in 2009, the year Rafa won his sole AO, he didn't win RG, and of course Federer won his sole RG that year, after having lost to Rafa in Australia.

I remember the huge pressure Jim was facing at that time because the entire world was talking about the CYGS. You could read about it in just about every newspaper. Jim faltered and lost early to a Russian nobody which was tragic because he was a solid grass court player, making the finals just one year later. I liked Jim a lot as a player, he made the finals of every slam when the surfaces were so different back then. Probably my favorite player of the early 90s alongside Michael Stich, Ivanisevic and Agassi.
