The quals are beginning tomorrow. Rosol, Gulbis, Rublev and Stakhovsky are some interesting figures in the quals.

There are four top 10 players in this field. There are four top 10 players in Queens also.
Two top 10 players (Nole and Rafa) are not playing. The top 8 seeds are given below.

1 Federer, Roger
2 Nishikori, Kei
3 Thiem, Dominic
4 Berdych, Tomas
5 Ferrer, David
6 Goffin, David
7 Monfils, Gael
8 Troicki, Viktor

The draw is now available.

The guy I miss most from the Halle draw is Tommy Haas :( Would be nice for him to play one last time next year if his latest surgery allows it.

Monfils has withdrawn. So, Troicki becomes 7th seed and Kohly becomes 8th seed.

Dustin Brown and Taylor Fritz got wild card entries.

No byes in this tourney. So, the folks from Stuttgart who are moving on to here should play at least on Tuesday.

Gulbis and Stakhovsky won their 1st round of qualifying and are 1 match away from making it to the MD. Rosol did not survive the first round itself.

Kohly and Thiem have to finish their finals in Stuttgart on Monday and then play their first round match here on Tuesday (there are no byes in this tourney). Fortunately, at least the two locations are not too far off and within the same country.

Nice match between Pouille and Nishikori. First set tiebreaker here.

Seesaw tiebreak, Pouille takes the first set.

Goffin is playing Coric. Young Borna seems to be addressing his passive play, stepping in whenever he has the chance here. Sadly, like Murray, when pressed he goes back into "safe" mode.

Hope he grows out of that... for El Dude's sake! :snicker

Well that was sad. Coric up 4-1 in the tiebreak only to unravel and lose it. :nono :cover

Something I'm looking for from both Coric and Zverev - the kind of resolve and focus that Thiem has in the big moments.

Gulbis qualified and promptly lost in the first round and that too to another qualifier.

Height of stupidity by Thiem. As if his heavy duty playing is not enough, he signed up for doubles also in Halle (although it is a powerful team, with Kohly as his partner). :cover

They gave a break to Thiem and Kohly. They will play their 1st round matches only on Wednesday. But, they together will play a doubles match on Tuesday.

One thing to consider is that both players are more than three years younger than Thiem.

Troicky is also playing terrible. Despite being seeded again loses in 1R, this time to Zevrev. Now, I think either Brown or Zevrev will make it all the way to SF.
