Favourite Umpires

Hi

I am new to this forum, and I was wondering who posters rate as the best umpires in the game at the moment.

Can I start off by saying Carlos Ramos and Eva Asderaki

What do other people think (and who do they not rate)

Hey, footygirl, and welcome.

Fun topic. I think Mohamed Layani may be the best of all of them, with Carlos Bernardes a close second. I do admire Asderaki, as I think she's tough and fair, and has been under the gun in some controversial matches. I like Carlos Ramos partly because I think he's handsome. :blush: But he's certainly a good umpire. (I believe he was the back-up umpire to Pascal Maria at the 2008 Wimbledon match.) And Kaider Noonay has that "voice." (The Barry White of umpires.) I also like Pascal Maria, though some don't, because he has an inclination to insert himself at the wrong moments. I, however, feel for him with that worried look that he always wears. And I give him credit for holding it together in what Wimbledon '08 match.

My favourite men's umpire at present would be Carlos Bernades,then Pascal Maria
I am not a fan of Layani at all.To me he let's some of the top players get away with too much at times in matches....for example the time factor on the serve....Nadal,Novak,Del Potro are the main offenders to me in that regard.
I like Carlos Ramos,regardless of him being handsome,he does stick to the rules

My favourite Male Umpire has retired,Lars Graff,I nicknamed him The School Master Lars would not put up with any nonsense in a match and he was a stickler for the rules.

My Favourite WTA Umpires are,

Eva Asderaki,Alison Hughes (formerly Lang),Marija Cicak and just for the Voice Factor alone Kada Nouni,also a good umpire.

By the way one of my favourite women umpires also has retired...Lyn Welch,a excellent umpire.

Least Favourite Umpires on the WTA

Mariana Alves....she has made too many mistakes

My favourite Male Umpire has retired,Lars Graff,I nicknamed him The School Master Lars would not put up with any nonsense in a match and he was a stickler for the rules.

By the way one of my favourite women umpires also has retired...Lyn Welch,a excellent umpire.

Like fashionista, I thought Lars Graf was an excellent umpire. He's still around as a tour supervisor, but never as a chair umpire. My favorite memory of him is from the '08 Wimbledon semifinal, when Safin made the most ridiculous challenge ever.

Norm Chryst is another retired umpire I liked.

I liked Lyn Welch a lot, too. She was fair and knowledgeable. You always knew she was in control, and the match would be played properly.

Mohamed Lahyani and Carlos Bernardes are my favorites of the active umpires.

^ Tented thanks for the memories regarding Marat's insane hawkeye challenge which he did with a wink.
I also remember a quote from Marat during Wimbledon 08,in which he thanked the Wimbledon officials,for slowing down the grass for him,he said that with a blank face.....LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always thought that after Marat retired,he should have written a book Marat Safin's Most Famous Tennis Quotes...

Loved Lars Graf and Lynn Welch as retired umps. Active: Nouni, Cicak and Bernardis. Not a fan of Leyhani.

Lehyani is alright. His recent exchange with Fognini was fun.
Graf has to be the best though. But even he could not keep a straight face after Safin's less than clever challenge.

I wonder who has got the French final, I will probably get lambasted for this but I would like Mariana to get it, though there are three French male umpires who have a chance too in Damien Dumocois, Emmanuel Joseph and Kadar(though Kadar did the final last year)

Pascal Maria is likely to get the mens final.

The quarters in the womens singles were done by Eva, Louise, Alison and Arnaud Gabas, which rules them out of the final. Personally I would have given Eva the final.

The mens quarters were Emmanuel Joseph, James Keothavong, Jake Garner and Cedric Mourier, which leaves Dumocois, Carlos Ramos, Carlos Bernardes and Pascal in the running for the remaining matches
