According to l'Equipe, Delpotro has a virus and a left wrist problem
He pulled out of Estoril and hope to be back in Madrid
Sad news for a very fragile player

Poor guy, there always seem to be something up with Del Potro. Seems like he never gets lucky.

He needs the points I guess since he dropped a fair few from his early loss in Barcelona.

He lost only 50. The 300 points for Barcelona 2012 he is losing are replaced by a 250 points for one of the 250 events he won and were not counted for.

And he still has some more unused in his reserve fund

Also I will need to add Ferrer cannot gain any points here in Portugal, no matter how well he does, he is maxed out already in 250 wins (he's got 4).
So the reason he will play will be to test his game.

Cheers for the updates on the rankings/points as always, herios. Didn't realize he couldn't gain any more here and only lost 50 from Barcelona.

R1 Pablo Carreno-Busta upset J Benneteau in the first round: 6-3,6-4.
Yje young spanish guy (21y) also upset in Casablanca Andujar. He is ranked 228, but based on this results, he shows potential, definitely more than his initial events this year, which were futures. Let's see what he'll do next.

Looks like he beat Goffin in round 2. I usually like an underdog, but I'm hoping his run ends here, being that he plays F3 in the QF.

Great intel, herios, about what Ferrer has/hasn't to gain by playing, and so why he is. Estoril has a great line-up and could provide some insight into who's a threat for the rest of the clay season. Do you want to give it its own thread? You usually do.

Another youngster G. Elias, 22y WC from Portugal, comes to spotlight. He defeated Istomin: 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. He is ranked 113, his highest to date.

Ferrer, Seppi and Wawrinka winners today, but Fognini was upset by Busta.

Carreno-Busta was 600+ ranked in January, and he now defeated 3 top 60 guys in a row here (OK, Goffin is 61...)

Ferrer vs. Wawrinka in the final. Head-to-head is 7-3 in favor of Ferrer. Ferrer won the last meeting (2013 Buenos Aires) in three sets.
Hoping for a Wawrinka win.
