The Tournament:

A combined ATP-WTA event, the China Open is the biggest tournament on the Asian leg of the WTA calendar and the fourth and last Premier Mandatory stop of the season.

The tournament, which launched as a Tier II event in 2004 and was upgraded to Premier status in 2009, is staged in Beijing Olympic Park at the China National Tennis Center. The facility - constructed for the 2008 Summer Olympics - expanded to 11 courts featuring a new 15,000-seat stadium with a retractable roof in 2011. It utilizes space-age air-cooling technology. In 2006, the China Open became the first tournament outside the United States to implement Hawk-Eye electronic line calling.

About Beijing

Beijing, China’s massive capital, has history stretching back 3 millennia. Yet it’s known as much for its modern architecture as its ancient sites such as the grand Forbidden City complex, the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Nearby, the massive Tiananmen Square pedestrian plaza is the site of Mao Zedong’s mausoleum and the National Museum of China, displaying a vast collection of cultural relics.

I thought Murray will play here, at least that was what @isabelle mentioned before.
That would mean he is done for the year?

Hurt his ankle and, yes, says he's done for the year.

I was surprised that Novak decided not to play, too, but anyway. I'd like to see Juan Martin take the title.

Novak was never on the roster. He would have needed a WC. I think the chat about eventually playing here ignited after winning USO. Nadal being absent could have been an opportunity to close the gap in ranking.

I was really just thinking of how many times he's won it and thought it was reasonable to think he'd play again, plus Mastoor said he was deciding whether to play or not.

Title is JMDPs to lose.

There are literally no other threats.

Surprised to see Thiem not playing this week.
