Who on earth would stay up until - or get up at - 4-5am to see Dimitrov\Gasquet? I'm not sure I'll even bother to check the score on that one tomorrow morning. How on earth did that get to be the night feature match on Laver Arena? Scary. Shouldn't the night match on the main show court go to a higher seed? Raonic, Monfils or Thiem instead of Dimitrov? They're all playing today as well, so it makes nos sense for Dimitrov/Gasquet to be the feature match on Laver. We're not talking about Roger Federer getting the main show court with a #17 ranking. He is, after all, still Roger Federer and still the biggest draw (cha-ching!) in tennis. But Dimitrov/Gasquet? I'd ask for a refund on my tickets.

Hoping Istomin tears Carreno Busta a new one. Hope he recovered well after his long match against Djokovic. Nothing worse than the trend of guys losing straight after a big upset no matter how much of a donkey the opponent. Saying that, he has a good excuse here if loses given how long the match against Djokovic was.

I am expecting (not wishing) Istomin to lose. After all, his last year's record was 9-22 (or something close to it). Even though it was a long match, I don't think it will be the physical part that will hurt him. After the emotional high of beating Novak, it would be hard to focus mentally and play with the same fighting spirit.

Likewise, I don't expect him to win either but on paper he should if fully recovered.

I'm hoping Zverev wins, but because I like him (he's a candidate for my next favorite) and I want the young guns to rise. No offense to Rafa, of course.

And maybe just a tiny bit because Roger is Rafa's bitch. :p

Sure Rafa. The smartest thing to do is to play to Zverev's stronger side and be passive. Unbelievable guy.
He struggles so much in these day conditions.

Istomin playing another five setter. He needs to force himself to come to net. So many opportunities to put away a volley but he instead lets the ball bounce, allowing his opponent to get back into position.

Nadal serving for the match at 5-2 in the decider

Rafa started bullying Zverev around the court in sets 4 and 5. Even before Zverev injured himself, he was getting outplayed hard. Very good level from Nadal in the last two sets. Shades of 2009 right there.

The most important thing Johnny Mac said if what Rafa said the last two years he fell to make his opponents feel some pain..In today's match vs Zverev, Alexander felt the pain..Rafa played passively to begin the match..aggressively in the 2nd set..passively in the 3rd set tbr and aggressively the 4 and 5 set...this was the match to have Rafa reestablish his reputation as a player to be hopefully feared again.

Maybe because he isn't quite confident yet, he was up and down w/ his aggression.

He definitely wasn't fully confident yet. As good as Zverev is, there would be absolutely nothing he could do if a player of Rafa's caliber toned down his errors and attacked his forehand with his own. On plexicushion at least.
Although on grass, peak Rafa vs Zverev would be a scary good match.
