With apologies to Donald Young and Ryan Harrison I'll give Sam Querrey the dubious honor of being the most disappointing American player of the last decade. He really has the talent to be at least a regular in the top 20 and even dip into the top 10, but isn't consistent enough. But maybe he can add to his head trophy with Andy, but I doubt it.

I think Jack Sock will beat JW, but it will be epic. I also think Evans will beat Tomic, and Troicki will give Stan a scare but lose.

Re: Berdy vs. Federer, to quote Star Wars, "I have a bad feeling about this."

Seppi vs. Darcis: battle of the spoilers.

I agree about Querrey. Big talent. I think his not reaching his potential has to do with his lack of fight. He is not willing to give his all to win.

Fed v Berdych is on at 2 AM in California. If I thought Fed could win, I would stay up, but I don't want to watch him lose. Father Time is cruel.

With Djoke out, I am picking Monfils. Obviously picking with my heart, not my head.

IMO, his height has a lot to do with it! He's still one-dimensional; just like Isner and Doc IVO! He's able to hang in the top 50, but win it comes to the elites, he might upset one, but won't back it up! Lets see what Istomin does after upsetting the #2 seed! My guess is not much! :puzzled :nono :cover

The quote was funny, but my subsequent fear that Roger might lose to Berdych kicked in, and it's not so funny anymore. He shanked a lot of balls in both of his matches, it must be because of the best of 5 format, he looked fine in Hopman cup. I assume Roger will play better and beat Berdych, but Nishikori is quite the obstacle here as well. I am nervous to see how it pans out.
Don't even get me started about Murray. I almost don't want Roger to face Murray right now at least.
On another tennis forum, someone said:
The only people who want to see a Fed vs Murray match in their current forms here are sadists. Lol.
Different story if Roger comes out firing tomorrow though. We shall see.

Look at it this way: If Roger loses to Berdy, Kei, or Andy, we can say "oh well, he's rusty" and then hope he plays into form for the rest of the year, in particular grass season and later. If he had lost to Rubin or Melzer we'd be more fatalistic.

Now if he beats Berdy or Kei, we can say "Wow, he got into shape quickly and is ready to at least beat the 2nd tier again." If he beats Andy, all of a sudden he's a serious contender for the AO.

My point being, him losing any of the next three rounds is in no way a condemnation or bad omen for the rest of the year. But I think we all secretly hope he can surprise and burn through them--and if Rafa is taken out by Zverev or Milos, he has a legit shot at the title.

Now I don't think he'll survive the gauntlet of the next three rounds, not to mention that if he somehow gets through he then has to probably face Stanimal and then, possibly, Rafa. But there's that glimmer of hope that won't die...

Milos for me would beat Rafa v Zverev I think it's a closer match 50-50.

Forget it, look at this way. We can definitely be happy that Roger progressed further at AO than Novak, no matter what happens. :laydownlaughing

Evans plays like a craze Aussie than Tomic does. Evans is an alpha dog who plays with a Napoleon chip on his shoulder. Bernie's counter punching style will get eaten up by this little British dawg..

Dude got dropped by his sponsor right before the tournament so he went out and bought plain white shirts. :sofa:

Well done Evans! Saw him play DC in Glasgow some years back. Nice to see that he's doing well.

I guess that Tsonga will be one step too far - but well done to him for reaching the fourth round!

Roger playing ok for now. Pressing for a double break against Berdych. I am impressed. He hit about 15 winners already.
The second I post this, Federer breaks once more, 5:2.
Hahahahaha

If Federer could keep this level all the way down, he would be a strong contender.. but he most likely cannot.
