IMO, Father Time is only cruel to the athletes who hang on too long! W/ the money & fame out there players will stay on tour a bit longer than they should! I said it about Federer, some said it about Nadal, now Djokovic has been in the "Retiring Society's" sights! Stan, Gael, & Murray defintely overstayed their welcome while abusing the WC alternative to playing well! Emotions run deep for oldsters! :astonished-face::angry-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:
Regardless of Father Time, players have a right to retire on 'their own terms' not ours!

I didn't see it, but the score shows top seed Shelton had to battle for his life to overcome Kovacevic in 3 TB'n sets! Watching Djokovic now who not surprisingly started out slow! He dropped his 1st serve allowing Hubert to take the 1st set, but now Nole's on the comeback trail leveling it at a set a piece! UPDATE: Finished him off in 3, 4-6,6-3, 6-4! :astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Dont make me laugh, I suggest you find a highlight of Bens match, the TB score wasnt a true indication of the match at all
Ben hit 44 Aces, without facing or conceding a single break of serve!

I didn't see the match. How can someone hit 44 aces and not win in straight sets? Is he back to returning like crap again?

For the life of me Fritz should not be having trouble closing out his match against Hjikata, looks like the 2nd set will go to a TB
Yep, TB it is for the 2nd set
Finally Fritz wins 64 76(3)

Hubi v Rune on court, Hubi won the toss and elected to serve, these indoor courts suit Hubi game, Rune does lead their H2H 1-0, that was in Paris in 2022, lets see
1 set all
Going 3
Rune will serve to force a TB for the 3rd set 5-6

Hubi has been the slighty more dominant player, his serve which is his signature weapon

Despite being out aced and losing the 1st set 63, Rune played a stellar 2nd set to level the match 63
Rune actually generated more BP opportunities 5BPs to Hubi 1, though both players have only managed to convert 1 break each

TB for the final set
Why does Rune have such close TBs? lol! his return game on 2nd serve points and also making critical statistical margins during high pressure points, is making up for his serve at times in this TB he has MP No 2, already saved 1 MP

Rune weathers the storm again in the final TB and wins the match 36 63 76 (7)

Well done Rune another confidence booster after being out of the tour for 9 months and now has won back to back matches has made the QFs in Basel

Just watched my 2 hotties in Basel! Rune overcame Hurkacz in a 3rd set TB! Hubert unfortunately gave it away w/ UFE's when it counted! :astonished-face:
What?
Rune won the TB 9-7 due to a combination of highly efficient baseline performances on 2nd serve points and critical statistical margins during high pressure points! which probably led to Hubi UFE? lets give credit to Rune, quite frankly Hubi's game bores me to tears, apart from the serve? Yawn, Rune is more of a complete player period.
Rune has won back to back matches and now has made the QFs in Basel, well done!

Basel Day 3 Highlights

The match of this round to me was Rune v Hubi, Rune coming back after 9 months due to an torn achilles, has now won back to back matches and has made the QFs, of course there are parts of his game that still needs improving, but he fought back well from being a set down and take the match to a TB, where his return of serve, and his strong baseline play, and critical statistical margins in high pressure points were the reason he won the match he also saved 1MP. Well done Rune!

Just finished watching highlights of Jodar (3) vs Vacherot

Jodar had 2 serves to win the match, inexplicably with very silly errors. The pressure from the ATP finals maybe weighing heavily, he has won 4 out of the last 15 TBs , he has played, an area he needs to improve on, not taking anything away from Vacherot in the match he played solid tennis
With todays defeat his spot in Turin gets more complicated.
Vacherot d Jodar (3) 67(4) 62 76(5)

Both de Minaur and Djokovic can now pass Jodar this week, Race to the ATP Finals,
de Minaur has made the QFs in Vienna, Djokovic is to play for a QF spot in Basel

Novak went down in the 2nd Round to Struff who played quite well! He'd never def. Djokovic so he was due w/ the former #1 on his last legs! Struff played lights out, took chances, & relentlessly attacked Djokovic who was frustrated throughout the match! He's playing well enuf, but today's players are giving "no quarter" to Novak! They aren't donating crucial DF's or UFE's allowing the old guy to escape! Congrats to Struff! :astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face:

In a strong serving display hitting 27 Aces and 66 winners Struff d Djokovic 67(4) 75 76 (5)
Of course noone defeats Struff 9 times and gets away with it :)

Djokovic needs at the very least a SF in Paris to have a chance to make Turin
A final would likely do it and a final surely do it. He wont have a first round bye in Paris

Good God the WC from Swiss Kym is a tall tree, vs Shelton, just checked his height he is 6ft 6in, around the same height as Zed
The WC Kym is presently outplaying Shelton on serve and efficiency and return points? and he wins the 1st set 63
